Free Piggies

Sorry but STARGATE also rescues I hate the fact you all seem to be jumping on a band wagon here because she shows and breeds as well Chill out everyone. Keep it friendly you never know what has happened and why they are rehoming so many.

It doesn't bother me that Stargate shows pigs. I don't know enough about showing to say whether I am for or against it. My only worry is that as they are free to good homes they could end up in the wrong hands. But looking at the way the about us was worded on the site I do think she does care about the pigs and hopefully would do a check on their new homes. ideally the site owner could have asked on guinea pig forums for help rather than using free ads but that's just my personal preference.

Either way we all care about the pigs and want them to be ok. :)

Just been reading through Stargates site They have closed the rescue now :(

this is cut and pasted from the site:
Late Summer 2007

Ok, so 2007 has seen a few changes here at Stargate Piggies, the most significant being we permanently closed the rescue.

To some this might seem a good thing to others it won't. After a very trouble start to the year, under the advice of our doctors, vets and other professional bodies we closed the door for the final time.

To us it was a sad day but I think, in the long run it will prove to be the right decision. We managed to rehome the majority of the rescued stock, the rest we couldn't part with.

I wish I was closer to help do something

It would be nice if mum could give them a home as she was asking about more piggies before these came up, for me its not about where they come from. There's hundreds of free ads piggies unfortunatly, just so happens these are near someone who could give them a home. I'm sure the pigs are fine and homes will be vetted as best possible. I hope I'm not being tarred with the anti showing and antibreeding brush :) have done both :)

I can help but you would need to get them to me in Kent. Thats if help is still needed.

I do know that Stargate piggies had alot of problems earlier this year, alot of which wasnt their own fault.

Has anyone found out how many piggies there are?I"ve took the phone number but just wondered if anyone had an update. If there are alot ,I couldn"t keep them all so then what.Do I find out how many there are first and then tell you guys. Can anyone else offer them homes or any rescues that can take them.Hope that makes sense.

I would ABSOUTLY love them!
It's just persuading my mum round , hopefully. I could probably have another 2. My mum is a big problem. I emailed her but had no hope she hasn't replyed. i'll phone stargate piggies tomorrow morning and find out. 1 -2 more piggies isn't mucj more work is it? What could i say to her to persuade her?

Bear in mind that it's your mum who'll be paying for them. Even if you're using pocket money it is still her money. I would completely see her point if she said no. I'm sure your heart is in the right place but any more pigs, be it 1 or 10, are more work not to mention more money.

You have to go with what your mum says. For every 10 you rescue there are 20 more, so make sure you can help the ones you do rescue and they won't be looking for a new home in a few months.
Mum, how many could you take, for keeps, definitely. Maybe you could contact them as you are having the pigs.
Can anyone get them to Kent if someone can foster for a while?

I can foster and rehome if someone can get them to me. I can only take 6 though.

If anyone is intending to take some of these piggies please pm me first as there are things you should know before you go ;)

Oh thats sounds ominous, :-\ I would pm you if you had a pm button. ;)

PM me if you want Vicky, I can pass it to Cheryl. If thats OK with you Cheryl. ;)

Thank you for all your concerns regarding my 'free to good homes' advert in the local free ads. These are NOT rescue pigs....never were....and aren't now. I have decided instead of making money out of my hobby I would prefer to give my pigs away locally. All homes are vetted both by me, a local RSPCA inspector and all the pigs are health checked before leaving my a rodentologist.

The advert has another week to run although all the pigs that needed re-homing have all ready gone to good new homes. Yes most of these were pedigree pigs that I felt would be happier living in pet homes as they didn't cope well being in a show atmosphere.

For anyone who wants the truth about any PM remarks coming from any other source please e-mail me at [email protected] where you will get the whole truth not part of it and no additive.

I hope from that message you are not implying that I am trying to spread lies about you as I am not in the habit of doing that ;)

I wasn't implying anything just saying it's always better to talk to the person concerned rather that anyone else. :)

I can assure you that these piggies where never in any danger O0

First time I've seen this thread today.

If anyone of the forum would be interested in getting pigs from me in the future, drop me a line. According to the law Juveniles must have a responsible adult acting on there behalf - no acceptions.

For information only 1 of the 'free to good homes pigs' won Best Pet at The City Of Norwich show today ;D. Talk about chuffed, it was great to see the face of his new owner too. She got a trophy, rosettes and cards and it was her first show. So a win win situation all round. O0

Sorry Ron you've lost me there. Do you mean you want them for show or you don't agree with shows. :-\

Why does an Inspector do your homevisits? Mine would never have time :) Who is your local rodentologist? I trained with someone from Norfolk, she kept gerbils too at that time.

The inspector is a good friend and fellow guinea pig keeper, this she does in her spare time and locally. What have gerbils to do with anything and who said the rodentologist was local. Sorry if I seem defensive but over the past year I've learnt the hard way to keep certain things to myself.

i have no ptroblem with shows
i think they are good for education and promoting good husbandry
i not too keen on 'pedigree' anything i have a pedigree spaniel a rescue
and like most people i find poor care of which has been on the forum in the past few weeks(surrey) inexcuisable
i personally when i have an animal choose to keep and care for life unfortunatley there are people in this world who don't and as commented in this thread everyone gets tarnished by asociation. i prefer not to have exshow /pedigree animals by choice

Sorry, was just saying, I can't remember her name it was the only way I could identify her :) Must've been 6 years ago now. Just wondered if it was the same person :) Anyone can find out who the rodentologists are in Norfolk or anywhere so I would suggest not saying anything if you feel that defensive? Inspectors that keep guineas, that has to be a good and rare thing :)
