Furbabies' Adventures

Ewww I hate the thought of ticks. My daughter got one when she was about 5. We had been cutting bushes down in the garden and she had been “helping”. We had to put salt on it and it fell off. We kept it for daddy to see. 🤣

Glad everything was sorted out x

Vicky was very angry at me today ... again.
When she was at the vet's because of her damaged cornea, the vet mentioned that she has a slight cataract in the other eye.
I knew that already but put it down to her age. I think it also once came up when we were at the university hospital.
This time the vet said that I should get her checked for diabetes to be on the safe side.

Since a urine test is a good first sign of diabetes, Vicky sat in piggy prison this morning to check her urine.

In this picture you can see her still cloudy eye.

Anyway, the urine test didn't show any sugar. :yahoo:

Oh, she's mad. Stay safe my friend, that look does not bode well!

I brought them dandelion from my walk this morning.
And then made her angry again because I had to give her the next round of eye drops.

I feel bad for laughing...but I still laughed lol. I got lucky with Bann, he mostly just grumbled about being picked up but was very good at taking meds and getting eyedrops. I keep silently begging Mourne to never get haypoke though, lol.

I'm an expert at getting ticks out of myself because we have got loads of them in our garden. 😞
And I'm a magnet for ticks and mosquitoes.

But I've only once had a tick on a piggy before. And luckily they are not susceptible to the common diseases ticks carry. (At least according to the specialist vet when Nui had her tick.)
I've managed to leave bits of tick mouth in at least twice and have ended up at the doctor's with massive itching. Once the bit of mouth was removed, the itching settled down, but I don't want to take any chances now because I live in an area where a lot of ticks carry disease. I know people who are really good at removing ticks without leaving bits in, so I ask them.

Good to know that guineas aren't susceptible to these diseases though.

Beautiful Vicky, you are being badly treated aren’t you.
It’s for your own good though.
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Yesterday we had another family excursion to the university of veterinary medicine. This time it was for Kylie's urine test. She has been on the antibiotic for three weeks now and I hope that the bacterial analysis will come back all clear.

The vet also had a quick look at Vicky. The damage is still visible but the eye is looking much better.

Pino just came along to say hello.

Oh I really really hope that Kylie’s result is clear
Great to know that sweet Vicky’s eye is healing
And Pino ….well Pino ❤️

Giving out morning meds ...

Pino just gets Rodicare Pulmo once a day at the moment to be on the safe side. I have heard a little snotty noise from him during the last weeks, just on and off and never long. So the vet said just to keep an eye/ear on him.
Pino is either really easy to catch or he is running around at high speed and you have to wait till he is in a hidey on the other side of the cage to try again. Today it was easy. 😅

Kylie is/was always a nightmare to catch. She is getting a bit slower with age but still very determined not to be caught. On some days I manage to catch her quickly but giving an antibiotic twice daily doesn't really help.
Today it was ooookkkkaaayyyy.

Vicky is easy to catch most of the times. I usually have to carefully get her out of her favourite fleece tunnel, pick her up from the hammock or get her out of a hidey. She just sits there and complains a bit but doesn't run away.
Well most of the times anyway.
Since she is such a good girl, I sometimes open the cage for free roaming before catching Vicky.
Did so this morning. Big mistake!

I opened the cage door to let out Pino and Kylie who were waiting impatiently. Then went to the side of the cage where Vicky was sitting in a hidey, put my hands down to get her.
And she was out of the cage with three or four elegant leaps. No eye drops for me, thank you very much. 😂

Just a quick update after another hectic week. I'm soooo looking forward to my holiday soon. Just hope that the piggies will "behave" themselves healthwise.

Vicky: Stil treating the eye. It's looking a lot better. Vet check next Friday.
She is really annoyed with me but a very good girl.

Kylie: We stopped the antibiotics yesterday. YEAH! That was 4 weeks treatment. The last bacterial urine analyis came back with inconclusive results.
She will still get Rodicare uro which she loves.
And I hope for the best.
No more stones forming, no cystitis coming up again.

Pino: Started to have a snotty nose again more often. So I put him back on baytril for 10 to 12 days to (hopefully!) prevent a relapse while I'm away.
