Where did the thread go? I had to log out and now I can't find it. It had some discussion on whether wires in sewing are harmful and I wanted to know why (dabbing in sewing as I am...)
Piggies can chew at things, some are the very devil when it comes to chewing, and they can get through the covering of material around a wire and thus make it poke out. Wires when they poke out and are supported by the rest of the item are then dangerous. So you have to use a bit of judgement as to how well the wire is covered and whether the piggie can get to the cut end.
I personally always use a plastic stiffener in the things I make. It doesn't hurt teeth if chewed upon and is a lot less likely to cause a nasty injury. It isn't totally safe of course, but it's better than wire I think.
ok, so THAT'S why I can't find it!Thanks for telling me, I was wondering if I had imagined a thread...:{
I imagined the wire as some kind of welded hoop. I can understand how it could be dangerous if it was open ended. It would easily poke out of the fleece even if your piggies aren't chewers.
I'm experimenting right now with a thin foam strip, but it sticks to the machine and is hard to get pins through... Have tried batting too, I just wanted to know about options!
