Hi

Very sadly we have just had to have our beautiful Mikey euthanised. This has left Valentina on her own. She seems to be coping and I have read the thread on caring for a bereaved pig so we are giving her lots of tlc.

I want to get her a new friend as soon as possible but she is a bit of a problem girl which is why we have ended up in this position.

She is generally a very stressed piglet and takes it out by biting. As far as I know she didn't bite our other piggies (probably because she was definitely the under pig) but has drawn blood from every member of the (human) family.

We have done lots of piggy whispering and she is better than she was but I am concerned that if she is challenged she may turn on another pig. I think that rules out another female or smaller pigs so I was thinking of trying to find an adult male for her. However, I would really appreciate some advice or if anyone has any other ideas

Firstly, sorry to hear you lost Mikey.
As she can be hard to please, try a rescue near you as they will help you find a suitable friend for her.
Let us know how you get on.x

Hello, sorry for the loss of your piggy. Please feel free to leave a memorial to them in our rainbow bridge section.

Piggy dating may be the best option for you that way a rescue can help you find the perfect friend.

As an aside just because your piggy bites hoomans this does not mean she'll bite other piggies, we have a biter because she is nervous when out of the cage. So don't rule out younger females or other females. Use the rescue locator at top of the forum to find your closest reputable rescue

Thank you - unusually we can only find one male rescue pig near us and he is a baby.

Thank you - that is really interesting about the biting. We are trawling the rescue centres now but no luck.

It all comes down to personality in the end rather than sex or age. If she was the under piggy maybe look for a relaxed confident friend. A rescue will help with dating. If you are getting a boar to neuter remember to wait 6 weeks after surgery before doing any introductions
