CharlottiesPiggies

well today was the first day of Integration week ::) heehee, I swapped fergie/Hamish & Merry/Rosie so they had swapped homes for the time being, lots of sniffing, munching and squeaking - so mum and i left them to smell eachothers scent without actually bein face to face.

I am going into town to look at possible hutches with run attachments for them to be in, providing they all get on together.

wish me luck!

I thought you were only fostering Hamish and Fergie though? Or are you keeping them? :)

Ah right, so what do you have three girls and a neutered boy? Or are they all sows? Bonding should be fine, just put them in a neutral area for a time, clean out where they are living and they should be ok. :)

yeh I have three sows and a boars, we are going to integrate them over a few days O0

This is just me personally but i've always found that with sows just putting them in and letting them sort it out works far better, they need time to sort it out and you tend to know wether it will work or not within half an hour. Just aslong as there are no really lunges at anyone they should be ok.

I put my sows in together and just let them work it out, but at the time pickle didnt get on to well so I took her out fed her up and popped her back in and she was fine still is. I think with boars it is totally different. I would say just keep a eye on them. The boar is neutered isnt he?

I always put groups of sows into a run together with a pile of veggies and apart from a bit of rummbling they usualy just settle down to eat.
I tried to do that but none of my sows stopped being naughty :-\ blood on ears and everything - my sows are worse than boars ;D

ok, went to kill two birds with one stone, and put the lot in together, there was lots of scuffles and they've seemed to have rejected Merry, so....but I'm going back out in a sec, once iv warmed up :D

Awwww :( Poor Merry
I wouldnt of let them go togeteher right away as one - the new additions havent even settles in yet and two - they need to get to know each other first by letting them play with each other in a little run or something then bonding them all O0 Maybe let 2 out in your shed and watch them for a few minutes each day or whatever thats how i bonded a few of my boars mixing each piggy up and letting them sniff each other then the nest day doing the same with different boars etc and they are now all living happily togetehr still :)

yeh shes having it hard, well I'm gonna seperate them tonight, and tommorrow evening I'm gonna mix them up so theirs two pairs of different ones if you see what i mean...is that what you are suggesting?

No don't mix them up, you may not get your original pairs back together. Put them all in a netural area to have play time together and see how they go, do this each day until they are totally fine with one anothers company. Good luck! :)

yeh i just put them into the cool-frame, merry and rosie have been in fergie and hamish's house all day, so they have done a house swap >:D and now they are all in together.

No :) what i meant was how i bonded mine was get 2 piggies from different areas and play with them two and they will like each others company after a few days but putting them away after they have played in their original surroundings but this may be a little stressful as when you put them back the other guinea living with them 2 will sniff the scent from that guinea pig if you understand and then the next day as they have smelt the other piggy on their friend i introduce them and they are fine :P

sorry if thats confusing but thats how i bond mine and it has worked out successfully O0
It may be stressful but arent most bondings ? ? They just need to get used to each others company so putting them in togetehr straight away will cause a scuffle ;D

I think however you do it, it will either work or not, if pigs are going to get on they will do straight away, if not you'll know about it within half an hour. thats in my experience anyway. With my first attempt at bonding my 2 sows with my neutered boar i tried the 'neutral territory, gadual introduction' thing and it went wrong badly, everyone was just stressed out and they all kicked off. So when i got my other sow i just put her straight in the cage with my neutered boar, being honest i didnt even clean his cage out etc, they loved eachother straight away, it just worked! Then when i introduced a baby sow to another of my sows i just put them in the cage together, there was a bit of nipping for a couple of days but now they're best mates. thats the way i find best anyway, just leave them to sort it out as the woukd in the wild. They'll go on instincts and should accept eachother after a couple of days of sorting things out because it benefits them in the wild to be in a herd, in my opinion with sows if you keep taking them out they'll just have to keep re'sorting the pecking order if that makes sense? I'd try just leaving them together but if there's an injury i'd do it gradually. Thats just what i'd do though.

thanks for the advice, i went out there just now, and merry and rosier werent in the box, fergie and hamish were, so then i shooed M&R in and they went in and i waited for them to be kicked out, but nothing, i waited......still nothing :D

i think the problem fergie and merry have, is that they are the leaders of the two pairs, so its almost like 2 bosses arguing about whos going to be the assistant boss yknow?

Awwww bless them ;D oh and jnenbnb ive tried that approach too and everyone of my bondings have bonded great O0

Yep i know what you mean, i have 2 very bossy girls! I think you should just leave them a while to sort it out and dont be to hasty in getting them out when they get narked, only remove them if there is a propper fight :) get ready when you hear chattering though or they start lunging at eachother x

yeh i pulled Merry out once, but i think that was me being over-protective as the cut on her side is still healing :'(

just went to feed them some veggies and they were all snuggled together in the box, no fighting no scrapping - gonna do a few more checks before i go to bed :)

well I'm at work all day tommorrow, i have put another box in their just in case of scraps etc etc. thanks for the advice girlies

well i think because fergie and hamish were together a long time, fergie is the top of the bunch and shes not so good with other girls being around Hamish lol

i am slightly concerned because they do seem to have neglected Merry, I just out and she was in the corner looking cold and sorry for hersel f, so i put her little igloo in for her, i just hope they dont beat her out into the cold :(

Awwwww :( Id give it till tomorrow to see how they get on as you never know they could be all friends by tomorrow O0
