Lady Kelly
Senior Guinea Pig
Ok so some of you already know that I will be rehoming Peter shortly once the B&Q grids arrive to build a C&C cage with (correx is already here). Now Peter is going to be neutered to live with my girls which is fine as I will have their old cage for him to live in next to their cage in the meantime but I have read some stories on here and I am worried about the risks of neutering. Now I know that he has been tried with several boars unsuccessful so feel there is no option but to neuter but what can I do pre and post op in order to make sure he is as comfortable and recovers the best he can?
I plan to keep him on fleece and towels with hay only in a hay rack post op, daily cage cleaning and maybe buy some specific bedding material thats soft for him to sleep in. I also have an excellent vets who are accredited for working with small animals and the two vets I have seen have been extremely knowledgable and caring with my girls.
Is there anything specific I should be buying/using for him? Is it ok to swab with salty water everyday to help him heal or is there another product I should be using? Should I be doing regular washing to prevent dirt getting in?
Any helpful tips you can provide will be greatly appreciated as I feel so attached to him already (and I've not met him) and it pains me knowing what I am going to put him through but I think its his best option for living with friends permanently
