Ok, so at the moment I have 6.

They will be the following:

2 x Cream/White roan rex
2 x pink eyed whites

I really will have a 'tribe'!

Oh, WOW! Will they be living in a group or are they a mix of boys and girls?

I wish you lots of fun with the poop scoop - I seem to spend half my life cleaning out piggies... :))

:(|) We thought we would stop at six but 'accidently ;)' homed four more baby girls a couple of weeks ago - sooo addictive ;)
Preparing to try bonding the young ones with the older two girls today as they have been quarantined for 2.5 weeks and been health checked. All clear and very healthy :)) so the grids will be coming out after the neutral introductions if all goes ok. Very nervous though as they have only been able to see and sniff each other through the grids for the past week - lots of curiosity and popcorning so paws crossed rolleyes
Having 10 really hasn't made that much difference financially, just longer to clean out and feed twice a day as we have four adjoining pens in total. No matter how tired I feel before or after work, it all has to be done. Washing vet bed etc. takes the most time up for us but that aside, would have MORE piggies :(|)

I find that, but I don't think I'll agree if something happens to them!

I've got a herd of 7 and a pair, and I think my herd is going to increase to either 12 or 14 in a few weeks time depending on who I fall for at the rescue!

Mine aren't on fleece so I don't have the washing to do, just more often cleanouts now (can only just get a week out of their sawdust bedding as opposed to about a week and a half!). They definitely take up more time, but they are more than worth it!

I threw my 'limit' out about 3 months ago. Said I'd only go up to 5, then only 9, now my limit's gone and I'll adopt 5-7 more in a few weeks. Then I think I'll be done... (but not limited!) for now, at least. ;)

Think it's ok having so many but we also have to consider vets bills as you say. I have a boar who has needed ongoing treatment recently and after further tests, has to have surgery on Tuesday 8... for a bladder stone. One of the new girls has an old injury to her eye which cost £40 for a consultation yesterday (with no treatment) so these are the facts we have to weigh up with so many to care for. In less than two months, I have spent £300+ on vet fees - £130 alone this week so know things can happen but always make sure I keep a little 'piggy bank fund' to one side for the unexpected.

I am stopping at 12 now - I'm running out of living room and the group has reached a good size in itself... mallethead

While the daily expenses have actually not gone up so much, any treatment that involves the tribe as whole (like mites) has.

I'm quite lucky that aside from Munchie a couple of months ago, I've not had to go to the vets for anything for a good 2-3 years. I think I'll cry though if something happens to the herd and they all need treating for something! I'm quite lucky in that mum and dad are still helping for now, but as soon as I graduate and get a job, most of my first paypacket will go into a fund for the pigs, just in case.

I definitely won't be going over 16 pigs until I get a job of my own to pay for them, and in reality I don't think I'll ever be able to increase the herd after the next increase. One day I'm going to have to fly the nest, and doing that with 16 pigs is going to be hard enough as it is, let alone any more!

Maybe one day, but I'm pretty resigned to the fact that my next visit to Milhaven will be my last for quite some time!

I struggle to afford 6 due to there excessive vet bills - I can honestly say I don't want anymore pigs the one's I have cause me enough sleepless nights. Perhaps I'm just unlucky or my pigs unhealthy.

As long as you can afford the impending financial burding and can deal with a piggy being sick and totally reliant on you to keep them alive well they get better - I'd say go for it but be prepared for more than one being sick at a time and have a piggy bank so your never left stuck with no funds.

Good Luck, can't wait for pics :).

Slight change of plan, It's now going to be 8 :))

Now a lilac and argente boar and a pink eyed white boar.

This is my current setup:
(Excuse the huge bag of food, I went to the wholesalers yesterday)

I've ordered another 4ft single hutch (like the one right at the top) and it's going to go under my 5ft one.
Those storage boxes will be moved elsewhere :).

Here is a little picture of the lilac/argente boar:

Name ideas anyone?

I have only ever had problems with 1 piggy so far, but I'm well prepared for many vet bills to come. I have 2 jobs so can pay vet bills and afford lots of toys and veggies haha. :).
