So Last night had my first piggy pet loss :(
Have dealt with a piggy PTS before - who was a rescue but Daisy was the girl we bought for company for Gus & Duke when we first had them neutered then decided to expand...

We nicknamed her Lazy Daisy at times because she would just comfily sprawl out and lay there ignoring the rest. She was only about 10 months which is absolutely gutting.
In hindsight we realise she probably had a lifelong disorder of some sorts. hard to explain but as much as she COULD Get hyper and run about mad most of the time she chose not to. I had her out on the 1st for night time cuddles and she was quieter than normal but I didnt realise anything was up. Yesterday she was amongst the others eating and drinking as normal :(

Then last night I walk past the piggy pen going to bed and they all start wheeking at me as always like they're starved, so I gave them all a pat and fresh hay. Was only when I went to leave I realised I hadn't seen Daisy. She was under a log bridge curled up just looked sleeping...
So I put a wee handful of hay beside her and tried to pat her and realised she felt odd...second feel of her to feel if she was breathing confirmed what my gut had told me.

I have never felt shock and fright like it, and still feel awful, didn't sleep much last night. She had a bloody nose when I found her so not sure if that means she did have some disorder, or brain issue etc. She was out of sorts for a few days but no obvious sign of typical illnesses.

So this morning I have the task of telling my 5 year old who favoured Daisy over the others, picked her out of 20+ in pets at home when we got her, and gave her cuddles every day... that she can't anymore.

Sweet Daisy, rest in peace little one :bye:

What a horrible shock for you, I'm so sorry you had to lose her so soon :( RIP daisy x

I am very sorry!

Finding a dead or dying piggy unexpectedly can really whack you as you haven't got the chance to brace yourself. The pain of loss is never less, just different. When you see it coming or battle for any length for a very ill piggy's life, you experience the heart-break of letting go whereas now you have to deal with the shock and the loss at the same time. The one consolation with an unexpected passing is that the piggy usually can't have suffered for long and death usually has come easy - but it is harder on the others!

RIP Daisy - what a pretty, pigsonable girl!

Oohh I'm soo sorry to hear this what a beautiful piggy. RIP lovely daisy popcorn free over the bridge with all the other wonderful piggies that are there too x

Sorry for your loss, Daisy was a beautiful piggy. I know what it feels like to lose one at home, it's heartbreaking.
(PAH animals are often not that healthy, I would not recommend getting one from there - apart from adoption section).

I am so sorry your have lost your beautiful little girl, she was taken far too soon. What a terrible shock for you, she couldn't have suffered like Wiebke as said as it was most likely sudden, I know this makes it no easier however. Huge hugs to you x

Sleep well gorgeous girl

RIP Daisy

What a terrible tradegy to be taken so young. I am so sorry for your loss.

Thank you for the kind messages x

We've come to think she must have had an underlying long term illness - but not a typically obvious one, perhaps one a little more sinister - as over time lately she just wasn't the same, and spent a fair whack of time just lazing about on the comfy cushions in the upper part of the pen. I remember feeding time and although I don't allow food on the upstairs (all fleece as opposed to shaving downstairs - easier for cleaning) I was handing her a little dish of pellets and veggies. I just assumed she didn't want to mingle with one of our newer piggies as they didn't get on that great. Nothing big, but Daisy was too soft for the bolshy nature of Holly!
But looking at it now, with Gus and Duke laying at either side cuddled into her often, maybe they sensed she wasn't well :(
They both have been quite off today, just moping around which is understandable as Duke has always rumbled around swaying his hips and protecting Daisy from any carry on.

She's buried in the back garden, our little girl was absolutely devastated but she said her goodbyes and said she has gone to piggy heaven x
