I lost my boy on Saturday morning. He came to greet me walking funny and I could tell immediately something was very wrong. When I picked him up he just cuddled to me and couldn't stand again. I took him to the vets immediately, more to make sure he didn't suffer, as they said (and I could tell it would be the case) that nothing could be done.

It was so sudden and shocking, I am absolutely heartbroken. After his health problems I didn't expect him to be with me as long as some piggies, but he had been fine the day before when he was out for floor time, running around and noseying in everyone's business. He was such a bright and inquisitive piggy, and always so trusting and wanting to see (and maybe have a nibble of) whatever you were doing. He was a bit of a celebrity on my facebook with friends always asking to come round and meet him, he even inspired some of them to get rescue pigs of their own.

He was my first piggy, I had him almost 4 years to the day. Words can't express how special he was to me, I miss him so much already.

I am so sorry you lost your beautiful boy. Losing your first piggy is so heartbreaking. There is something so special there that can never be replaced. This has been such a shock. I really am sorry.

You never forget your first piggie, despite the many others over the years that follow. And Oswald looks to have set the bar pretty high in the cuteness stakes! You obviously adored him and he was lucky to have had such a caring home with you. Popcorn free little Oswald x

I'm so sorry, what a lovely boy he was. Thank you for acting so quickly, it was the kindest thing you could do for him.

So sorry for the loss of your gorgeous little boy. Massive hugs to you at this sad time, he was obviously such a special little guy.

RIP Oswald

I am very sorry for your loss! When a passing is sudden, you additionally have to grapple with the shock as well as the big hole in your life.

At least Oswald had a very good time - it is a small consolation at this stage of the grieving process, but it may be later on; just to know that he didn't suffer for long, had a happy life and actually lived to a decent age for today's mass bred piggies.

RIP Oswald - you were gorgeous cutie boy!

Thank you everyone for your sweet comments. I'm glad I got to spend the time I did with him. :)

I now have the bitter-sweet task of finding some company for my remaining piggy.

Try Rainbow Rescue in Southport. They are your closest good rescue. Not quite sure whether they offer dating for bereaved piggies like most good rescues, as they are fairly new, but they operate to a high standard of care. If not, Milhaven in Keighley would be your next port of call - you will be in very safe hands there, as several forum members can attest.

Thank you. I've been looking at all of these, also checking out The Potteries. My friend has offered to drive me to wherever has promising friends for her. I think I will need somewhere that offers dating services, as my girl is quite the bossy boots.

Wishing you the best of luck - speak to all rescues on the phone. I didn't list the Potteries because I am pretty sure that they haven't got any ready neutered boars and single sows at the moment; I was up there last Thursday for dating some girls of mine with a non-dominant neutered boar that had been given the all clear by the vet, and the fosterer has just told me that his companion will be staying on with her. ;)

If you don't mind driving further South or going by train, the RSPCA Walsall have a boar neutering policy and offer dating. This the boy that is currently looking for a wife: http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/...guinea-pig-walsall-rspca.110867/#post-1506670
