Growing Vegas for the pigs

I started growing some veg this year for my piggies (I have 20 so they go through ALOT of veg every day). This is my first year and so far have had a bit of success with lettuce, kale and cabbage. I’ve got tomatoes, carrots, runner beans, cucumbers, and peppers will waiting to grow and flower. I’ve also planted some herbs (but they don’t seems to be growing, grass (my garden is mainly stone but I still wanted them to have some grass to eat sometimes) and 2 berry bushes (but won’t be ready until next year).

My question is: do any of your grow veggies for your piggies? I’m having a lot of trouble with bugs (caterpillars, some green bugs, and other pests) how do you keep them away? Do you use bug killer (and of this okay for guinea pigs?)

I’m also thinking of using fertiliser. Is this going to be okay for them as well? I mean, if I buy the veg from the supermarket they would have used chemicals on their produce, right?

I don’t want to harm my pigs. Do you have any tips or tricks? Please let me know.

I wouldn’t use any feed, fertiliser or insect killer on anything you plan to feed your piggies. You can actually use your piggies’ poo as fertiliser.

Ive grown my own since I was 10 years old, my grandad got me into it and here nearly 30 years later I’m still doing it!
Are you growing in the ground or in containers? i don’t use fertilisers but my grandad taught me to plant green manure over winter and then in spring you cut it down and dig it in to the ground and that acts as a feed.
For bugs, try companion planting. Certain flowers work to keep bugs away - ie marigolds next to carrots stops carrot fly. Lavender is a good companion plant etc. There are lots of them if you do an online search. Or use a dish soap and water spray on bugs.
