Hi I new here I worry about my guinea pig and can not take her to the vet. Her eye is bulging and swelling for a long time but yesterday her eye start to leak white pus thingy it smell bad too. Today clean her eye again with a cloth and there a white long sticky pus come out and it smell much worst. I wonder if there a abscess under her eye lid which also push her eye upward and out. Now the bump under her eyelid is much smaller maybe because the white thingy is out? I wonder what eye drop I should use to clean her eye to get her eye to heal and fight off anymore bacteria. Thank you

Oh her eye is red too she keeping trying to scratch it but today after my mom get the white pus out she don't scratch her eye no more and also before the pus is out we use human eye drop for itchy and irritation red eye on her eye is it ok and do pus usually smell bad.

Why can’t you see a vet? I’m sorry to say but this is urgent and a vet must be seen. She could lose the eye and will be in a lot of pain if veterinary treatment isn’t sort urgently

please do NOT use human eye drops and yes, pus smells bad

No, it is not ok. Do not squeeze it. She HAS to see a vet. She will require her eye to be be treated, if it is severely damaged then there is always the chance it’ll need to be removed altogether plus she will need antibiotics.

There is nothing you can do yourself. She absolutely must see a vet urgently. It is not negotiable I’m afraid, she requires urgent treatment
I wish I could I think the eye that sticking outo need to be remove but no matter how much my mom tell my dad he always said no

What kind of antibiotics

She doing all fine like a normal guinea pig even when she is old now she run very fast and eat

What country are you in? Your piggie needs to see a vet as they are suffering. If you are unable to provide vet care maybe a rescue centre would take on your piggie to get them the care they need and find them a new home. I'm sorry this is happening to you it must be really hard when you've not got the choice to take your pets to the vets.

@furryfriends (TEAS) runs a specialist guinea pig sanctuary here in the UK. She’s had piggies who have sadly lost the eye due to abscess and infections and that is after urgent veterinary treatment and excellent care. PLEASE see a vet as a matter of URGENCY. Guinea pigs hide pain very well as they are prey animals. I can not stress how important this is

It doesn’t mean that the damage and pain goes away.
What do you mean someone at school to help? She needs a vet, nobody else is going to be able to help her

Why do you say in your first post that you cannot take her to the vet?
It was mentioned further up that the poster was unable to take the piggie to the vets because her dad said no. Maybe their Dad is in control of the finances. I'm not saying that this is right but maybe they don't have a choice. 😢

Ah yes, I see that sentence now.

I agree with all the very good advice that has been posted already. your parents are responsible to ensure your guinea pig is given the correct care and absolutely needs to see a VET. Your pig will be in pain. Please show your parents this ..

Thank you guy you being so kind when I grow up I gonna be a vet
she a strong guinea pig :)

All guinea pigs appear strong. It is in their nature too as they are prey animals and hide illness and pain very well. You guinea pig is hurting and is not well because she is great pain under her eye. If you had pus coming out from under your eye would you squeeze it out and say I'm fine now? ER no! You would go and sEe a doctor or go straight to hospital. YOUR GUINEA PIG NEEDS TO SEE A VET.

Have you spoken to your dad about taking the piggy to a vet? It’s really important. Acting and looking like she is well doesn’t mean she is. Piggies hide illness very well.

Please speak to your dad. Tell him he took on responsibility when he agreed to you having the piggy. So by law he MUST agree for her to be seen.

If he still refuses then the best thing you can do for your girl is to give her up to a rescue who will be able to take care of her health.

If your dad is unwilling to pay vet fees, then I wonder whether he’d agree to you getting your girl a friend to live with. Piggies shouldn’t be on their own. No matter how much time you spend with her, you’re not a guinea pig and won’t fully understand her behaviour and language.

Let us know how it goes on the dad front.

This is heartbreaking. Is there a sanctuary nearby that can take the piggie on and get her treated
