I was actually genuinely :'(dissapointed as I wanted to help him. But I really didin't expect his mum to ring me after Fridays events etc!

My friend had orginally asked me to take the two babes as she really didn't have the room for 2 boys but I told her about Scooby and we were gonna try and pair him up with one of the babes. But it didnt happen so yesterday I took both and the brothers can stay together! I expect Scooby will be neutered somewhere and put with a woman if he's gone to a rescue.

New babes are Cubby & Golly!

I know you really wanted to help him and I was really keeping all my fingers crossed that you would get him. Its such a shame :(

Cubby and Golly are great names. Can't wait to see pictures :)

Scooby's mum was willing to come along and have a chat with you so that she could see where Scooby was going to be living. It was you who refused to allow her to do this. I appreciate your reasons, but his mum was just wanting to do what any good rescue would.
If you had been open to meeting the owner at your home (we discussed safety aspects), you would most likely have had Scooby now.

For me to encourage an owner to hand a guinea pig over to a stranger turning up at her door would have been totally irresponsible. I'm pleased that you have so quickly found two baby guinea pigs.
Good luck with Cubby and Golly.

I stand by the advice I gave this lady.

Barbara

I didn't REFUSE her access I just didnt get the opportunity to discuss it with her as you were go-between. I didnt come by the babies "so quickly" I knew they were with my friend and if you read I was going to try and introduce Scooby to one. Buts thats all by the by now. You obviously have your own very strong opinions of someone you have never met and have only bothered to read every other word of my posts, as I tried to say on Friday it was between her and me I just wanted you to pass my number on, I didnt get the chance to discuss anything with her because you intervened. Never mind you won't get that chance with me again.

All I know is that I am a very responsible caring piggy owner for 30 years.

That really is my last word on the subject now, I have learnt a lesson, a valuable one. But please Cavykind whatever your opinion of me ( reading between your lines is obvious) you're very wrong! Your judgement of character is poor on this occasion remember I wasn't just protecting myself I was protecting my piggies too who all live indoors with me in luxury!

I did pass your number on Piglover and I told you so. If she chose not to contact you after finding that you would not allow her a home visit, that was her choice. And if you read back on this thread, you made it very clear that no one was coming to your home.

Please don't make out I intervened, if you remember, you contacted me. I only ever acted in what I believed (and still do) to be the best interests of the guinea pig concerned. :)

Barbara

I lost out on a boy to join my others - Thanks to you. I didn't ask you to repeat my fears of someone coming to my home, my point is that I didnt get the chance to discuss it with her because you made me out to be some freak that wouldnt allow anyone to my home - which I never said.

Anyway its all by the by.

Just remember we ALL have guinea pigs best interests at heart (very dearly to heart) not just you and I'm NOT a rescue "just" a piggy lover who would have given him a great home and life.

Enough now.

Pig lover I am so sorry you didnt get the pig. Personally I think you were a star because you offered to have him from the start .. almost immediately when I posted the topic. I am sorry also that you have had uneccessary stress through your offer of rehoming him. I'm sure he would have lived in luxury, like your other piggies. I'm so glad you have two new babies to look after. I just hope the little guy gets the home he deserves.

Aw, Thank you Beatrice & Debbie R I was dissapointed I was looking forward to Scooby sitting on the piggy sofa come 8pm for Parsley with the rest of the gang! It takes a bit longer with babes but my Pooks will soon have them trained up! Still all we can hope that Scooby gets a good home.
Thanks again

Lets hope eh. I just hope that Scoobys mum done the decent thing and took him to a rescue. I don't suppose we will ever know now :(
Thanks Beatrice for flagging up this story in the first place. Piglover I feel dreadful for you I really do.

I personally think this thread is getting out of hand...

I am not taking sides as I can see where both of you (Barbara and Piglover) are coming from.

I think its great that piglover offered this guinea pig a home. Both Barbara and I contacted this lady to ask for more information on the guinea pig. This lady told me her email address and also said that she is only online in working hours too. When I saw Barbara was in contact with this lady, I decided to keep out of it then as I didn't want to confuse the lady with all these emails off numerous people.

I have only really read this thread properly today and from what I can see, Barbara was genuinly trying to help piglover get Scooby. She passed on piglovers details to Scoobys owner and had to be honest that she does not know piglover in person. This should not be taken personally as you can't expect somebody to lie because like you have said Piglover, some people on the internet are not who they say they are (I am not suggesting you are one of these people!) so Barbara had to cover her own back and tell the truth especially as she runs a rescue too.

If you had asked me for Scooby's owners email address, I to would have checked with Scoobys owner that it was ok for me to do so first. If you would like me to do this, I will be more than happy to contact Scooby's owner to check whether it is ok for me to pass on her details to you. I know you wanted Scooby before the weekend, but this is no-way Barbaras fault. If Barbara passed on your details to Scooby's owner, this is all she could do. I can understand that you don't want just anybody to come into your home however if Scooby's owner wanted to do a homecheck (which would be what a responsible owner would do if they did not know the person), then you would have had to allow this if you wanted him that much.

Like I said, I am not taking sides at all, this is just my personal opinion :)

I would have liked the opportunity to speak to Scoobys mum myself, simple as that. Barbara made it sound like I was coming to be interogated, I wanted to speak to Scooby's mum to discuss him, the situation and what we were going to do. I'm not stupid I was just being cautious as I dont know Barbara or what Scoobys mum was like either. I agree this has got out of hand (ish) but a guinea pig may have lost out on a happy home - hopefully not.

The whole point was Scooby's owner was advertising him on Ebay of all places ! hardly responsible. Everybody involved was trying to do their best for him to get him rehomed (lovingly) asap, I feel because Barbara got this bee in her bonnet about me "not wanting anyone in my home" she advised against me having him - simple as that.

As I said I live alone (save for piggies) in the woods in the middle of nowhere, so I am bound to be cautious I didnt have to explain myself to Barbara but never got the chance to explain myself to Scooby's mum.........

I wanted him before the weekend to spend time with him, settle him, let him meet the others and a new friend too - do I have to justify everything I say?

Anyway the moment is well and truly past now (phew!) needless to say I shan't be answering anymore distress calls as I'm full up now - in more ways than one!

Thank you!

I already did this as soon as piglover asked me to. The owner chose not to contact her. Simple as that.
Maybe she read this thread as I did also point her in the direction of Guinea Rehome.

I gave up my time to help piglover on a day when having lost Solo, I could have nicely not bothered....and all the thanks I've had is to be called heaven knows what :(

I'll hopefully keep in touch with the lady owns Scooby and If I hear anything I'll let you all know. I'll start another thread though ;D

Barbara

Cavykind

You've been called nothing, I might have thought lots of things but said none of them.

She chose not to call me because you persuaded her not to, Thanks.

I only asked you to give my number not to pass your opinion which you have made without knowing me.

Forget it anyway he's probably in some rescue waiting to be neutered.........

You keep up the good work now...........................

I total understand this and agree that you should have had the chance to talk to Scooby's owner.  If Barbara passed on your details and the lady did not contact you then this is not Barbara's fault.  Barbara had to say that she did not not you in person as if something did go wrong with this rehoming, it could wreck Cavy Kind Rescue's reputation.  I cannot comment on the emails that went between CavyKind and Scooby's owner as I have not seen them however if I was in Barbara's shoes, I would have passed on your details and stated that I did not know you in person - I would not have gone on to say anthing else about you as I do not know you and its up to Scooby's mum to decide for themselves whether they think you would offer Scooby a good home (which I am sure you would have!) I don't know if Barbara did this so my opinions are only based on what I have heard.

I agree, it wasn't responsible at all advertising Scooby on eBay.  When I contact Scooby's owner this was the first thing she said to me... "Hi, email address as requested re ad for Scooby, even though I've just found out I wasn't supposed to place it, oops!" - She did realise straight after that eBay was not the place to put an ad for a guinea pig.

I don't know what Barbara said to the lady so like I have already said, I cannot comment at all.  I don't think it is Barbara's place to advise somebody on whether they should offer a home for a guinea pig to somebody they don't know.

I can understand too why you would be cautious!  This is not a bad thing at all.  From your past posts, it did seem as though you did not want anybody at all coming into your home - clearly this is what Barbara picked up too.  Again, like I have already stated, I would not have said anything to Scooby's owner about this as it should be between both you and Scooby's owner.

I wanted him before the weekend to spend time with him, settle him, let him meet the others and a new friend too - do I have to justify everything I say?

No, you don't have to justify everything you say.  Its hard for people if they only have access to the internet in work-time.  If Barbara passed on your details to Scooby's owner and they did not contact you, then this is not anyones fault. (This is if Scooby's owner wasn't influenced on a decision before even talking to you first!)

I just hope that things can get sorted here so that there is no hard feelings by either party!

As I say the moment is passed, hopefully poor old Scooby gets a decent home. Which is really the only important thing here.

If I'd had the chance to speak to the lady "unhindered" Scooby could be waiting at home for me, Oh how I wish I had just pressed the "buy now" button! Someone said not to as animals wern't to be sold on Ebay so I thought I'd better not cause I'm at work, but god I wish I had.

Please let this be an end to this now...........

Here is the first e-mail I sent his owner....what more could I have said or done?

I give up, I really do ::)
But no hard feelings, I gave up taking the things people say too personally an age ago. It takes all sorts ;)
Anyway, I'm out of this one....as said any news on Scoobs, I'll let you all know :)

Barbara

Hello A"""",

There is a lady called S*** (I believe she may have been in contact with you via Ebay) who lives in your area and who is willing to give Scooby a home, She is a member of one of the guinea pig boards (The Guinea pig Forum) I go on. I can't vouch for her personally as I don't know her, but I know she would like to have a chat with you about your guinea pig.
If you would like to speak to her, the number is *************. As it's a mobile number don't be frightened to ask her to call you back! So can have a good chat!

Before you hand Scooby over, do make sure that you are happy that he will be going to a good home, my advice would be to take him along, see where he will be living and if unhappy do not leave him. If there are any problems or you have any concern, don't part with him. This is just a little bit general advice I would give to anyone :)
There are rescues in Sussex if this doesn't work out, details can be found on this site : http://www.guineapigrehome.org.uk/gp/centres.asp
Anything else I can do, just get back in touch.

Hope all goes well,
Barbara

Thanks for posting that Barbara.

I will now be closing this thread.
