Guinea Pig Penis Problems Please Help! (pictures)

Hey!

I'm having the same issue with one of my skinny pig (pododermitis combined with a chronically protruding penis). My boy is missing the scabbing seen on yours, but his has turned a dark purple color. I've been cleaning his penis in warm water at least twice a day, and using a lubricant to push (part) of it back up. His penis definitely isn't dirty (the vet pulled it all back, and confirmed he's clean), he isn't impacted, and his perineal sac is cleaned regularly. He's also living on fleece/towels. This is a relatively new development (i.e. in the last month or so), which started after he completed a course of Baytril and developed related-gastrointestinal issues. It goes back in sometimes, but unfortunately its been hanging completely out for the last 5 days. It doesn't SEEM to hurt him -- he lets me pull it back and clean it, and doesn't make a fuss when I gently try to push it back up.

The exotic vet I took him to isn't sure what's wrong with him, and she refused to do a uro-genital exam :/ I was going to post my own thread, but figured I'd add to this one.

Anyone else had any issues with this, especially in skinny pigs?

Wow this is so weird that our skinnies are both going through the EXACT same thing!
It makes me feel better knowing that I'm not alone too.

Ive managed to get my boys willy to pretty much stay in completely now by using the method the vet taught me. If you hold him so you have full access, pull the skin around the penis back and away from the body so it completely covers the penis, whilst lightly slightly squeezing the skin at the end.. this movement kind of pushes the penis back up and inside the his body.

Before I did this though I gave it a good wash to make sure there was nothing sticky on it.

My advice to you is that if his penis is not bothering him too much worry more about the feet, because in my case the feet are the ones causing pain and problems.

From what I've read it seems that bumble foot is stubborn so I'm trying not to lose hope but it is so hard when you are doing so many things and not seeing an improvement.

If your baby only has it minor I would say try the Epsom salt soak method, as prior to my boys flare up this time round, that was always amazing and really worked for him!

Does he have bumble foot on all four feet? And how bad is it?

Unfortunately he had to be euthanized today :( I'm devastated. The vet said he may have had cancer, and that may have been part of the reason for the penis issue. It may be worth having your boy checked out for something of that nature, if the problem persists. My boy was quite old though (about 6) and had been dealing with some health issues for a while. He just never seemed to get any better, and today just completely crashed. It seemed so sudden, even though realistically things were taking a downwards turn for a while.

If you do find out about the penis thing, I would love to know. I have another male skinny pig, and if the same thing happens to him I'd like to be able to help point the vet one way or another.

Good luck with your little guy. He seems so lovely, and he's adorable. Keep us updated!

:)

Oh @Fishtails I'm so sorry for your loss! Your piggy is popcorning and playing zoomies with his new friends at the Rainbow Bridge. Please don't blame yourself you did everything you could. We have a Rainbow Bridge section where you can put up a tribute when and if you feel ready RIP little guy!

Oh I am so so sorry to hear this! That is such a shame, but I am sure your boy knows you did everything you could and is so grateful to have such a loving and caring owner!

Sending you lots of love and hugs xx
