Hi, today I had a very bad scare with one of my girls. Her names Ginger. Well today I had to feed them a But earlier then usual (about 2 hours) just because this weekend I'm leaving to to go visit someone 2 hours away so my mom will have to take care of them. Anyway. I put the veggies in each of the cages and they were chomping happily and I put the veggies down in Gingers cage real quick and went to go fill up a water bottle and when I got back I saw that she didn't make a move for them they were still uneaten. This freaked me out. So I slightly moved her pigloo back and fourth and I thought I saw her move so I lifted it up just to like relieve my paranoia ((I've been through a piggy death before and it crushed me)) anyway she was still laying down and just she didn't move so I said her name twice and she still didn't move. I saw that she was breathing though but at the time this wasn't really processing through my head since she wasn't moving. And I pet her. She had a slowish reaction and then she got up and ran around looking for somewhere to hide I think and she started acting normal. I don't know what to do. Can anyone help?

She might be a deep sleeper? My Bella has given me a few heart attack moments when she goes into her daily "deep sleep". Calling her doesn't help, rustling food bags doesn't help and the only thing that wakes her is to be gently and unceremoniously poked :))

Keep an eye on her by all means, but I'm sure she was just dreaming about green meadows. If there's any change in behaviour just pop to the vet for a check up :)

I really hope your right but I've never seen this happen before. I'm usually with my guinea pigs as much as I possible can. I've never experienced this with any of my piggies and ive been an owner of for 4 going onto 5 years. Ginger is turning 2 in February so I couldn't be old age.

I've never seen it with my other 4 pigs tbh, just Bella. She started doing it at about 6 months old odd though, probably just to give me a heart attack XD

Is she moving about okay and eating/breathing normal?

Well that's a relief I have 4 other piggies too! She is eating decently except she doenst really like her pellets. She's never really ate much of those and I've tried tons of brands. She does eat her hay but not as much as the others and her drinking is normal. I'd say she does move okay.

Oh lovely! 5 is a magic number right? :P

My lot were never that keen on pellets when they were younger, probably for the best really! They love them now that I restrict them of course :))

Do you weigh your lot weekly? It's a bit of a palaver for 5 I know aha. As long as her weight's fine and she's acting normally I'd say she was just having a deep sleep :)

Darcy always does this to me! No matter how much noise I make she doesn't wake up. Don't worry a sick piggy would likely be sat all puffed up rather than fast asleep. She probably just wasn't expecting her veggies so early.

I've never been more relieved in my life. Thank you all so much. I've been having my mom check up on her since I'm not home and she says she's been running around and eating. So she's good! But thanks you guys!
