Pedro and Basil- when we adopted them they were Woody and Slinky, but that had to change! There's something about their facial expressions, like when I natter away to them that says "we do be understanding you ooman" so I thought they needed some little old man names😁

Piggi's names: Little Bean, Pumpkin, Caribou, Brûlée, Nutmeg, Moka, and Peet
Kitties names: Puma, Tiggi, Bear, Digdug, Runner, and Leonardo DeCatreo

So Peet and Leonadro DeCatero would be the closest to human names we have in our family.

I love human names for pets but sometimes they want something different. My daughter named Silk, and Clover kind of demanded a "nature" name, though I know Clover is sometimes a human name, if an unusual one.

My hamsters were Harriet, William James aka Billy, Honey, Timmy, and Poppy and the dog is Rory Arthur.

Some pigs just seem to name themselves.

We tried thinking of various combinations - mostly nature/Greek goddess themed for the pair below and nothing stuck. They certainly weren't keeping their rescue names (Toffee and Spring) as they didn't suit either.

My OH got there in the end, and they just suit their names.

So here are Agatha and Christie.

Agatha is the mad, bouncy rex pig at the front; Christie is the pretty/dainty/neurotic pig at the back.

Oh, and the black blur behind the run structure is Wellington, one half of the Wellington and Wenlock pair who're named after places in Shropshire - but they don't count for this thread!

Awww the girls are so sweet. Did you Neuter your boars? How old were they? What was the recovery like? Sorry to change the subject I'm thinking of neutering Womble and I'm a bit nervous.
I love the girls colouring and Agatha is so fluffed up and proud!

Agatha is completely batty and very, very bouncy. I love her to bits, but she's mad.

@Kellykels Wellington and Wenlock are both girls, albeit with slightly odd names for girls. They were named after places in Shropshire because we were following a theme with names linked to the Industrial Revolution. They were originally with a boar called Brunel (named after Isambard Kingdom Brunel) who I had to neuter after he lost his original companion Telford (named after Thomas Telford).

Neutering Brunel was a tricky decision; but he was only 1 1/2 when we lost Telford to cancer and boar dating him had proved to be a spectacular failure.

I live in an awkward spot vet wise, with no recommended piggie vets remotely near us. In the end I did some careful research, and had him neutered at a vet near my parents house when I went to stay there to house/pet sit whilst they were on holiday. It gave me 10 days near a vet I trusted to do the Op. and to catch any complications. In the event there weren't any for which I'm very grateful. Brunel died in April 2019 at 5 1/2 years of age having had a full and happy life with us. I'd had him from a rescue at 12 weeks old and he was such a character. A real gentleman of a pig.

That's nice to hear.
Womble is 3-4 years old I believe and we got some babies which were mis-sexed
The people who had them said boys and everyone else is screaming girls!
The vet also thinks they're girls but was unsure. (They aren't cavy savvy vets, taking them there on Saturday to double check)
I don't want to trade them for boy pigs because we love them and I feel responsible for them now.

I love the theme of your names. I love history in general so it appeals to my nerdiness.
That aside they are also cute names.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with me.

My dog, cats, and fish have human names. It doesn't bother me at all. MUCH better than some names people give pets like Socks or super common names like Luna or Bella. But I think pigs are much cuter with food based names. My coworker has 3 girls with spanish vegetable names. A local rescue has a pair names Peas and Carrots. If/when I get more pigs I want to go with that.

I chose Chico and Amigo because I wanted cheesy, matching names. Bruin and Little Bear got their names because Bruin is a big, buff, brown critter who reminded me of a bear, and Little Bear is much smaller than him.

I have never given my animal human like names, I just find it funny when they do. It never suits them.
I have Womble (named after the Wombles). I had Stripe (rip)- named after 'Stripe' in Gremlins even though his personality was completely the opposite.
I have two sows with food based names Pinto-Bean (Pinto) and Truffle.

I love the names peas and carrots! >.<
I love your guineas names too. The names we choose are very personal and have meaning to us and can depend on our mood or something we see in the guinea pig.
No matter what they're called they're all cute little beans!

Mine have human names.

Betsy is called Betsy because she is just beautiful.
Christian is because he is several shades of grey.
Meg looks like a Meg.
Dennis looks like a Dennis.
Patsy was called Pattie when I adopted her but I thought Patsy suited her better and it was close to the name she had.
Velvet was called velvet as that is what she felt like.

I love Dennis! He does really look like a Dennis!
All the names and pigs are beautiful, so many interesting colours and textures!

Where does the name Merab come from? I think I recognise Micah but I can't remember where from.
All the names are beautiful.
Do you mainly keep sows?
All the names are Biblical. Merab is more obscure but comes from the Old Testament.
My first 2 piggies as an adult were boars, Titus & Philemon but since then it’s been sows except Micah. He was deemed unbondable and condemned to a lonely life as a single pig so I rescued him and after a little op,and a 6 week wait he became a very happy husboar

I'm hear he was ok. No wonder I heard of the names. I went to Sunday school. :D

Dennis, Meg and Christian are siblings. They are Rainbow Piggy Velvet's offspring. When I bought Velvet and Betsy from P@H (didn't know rescue was best then) Velvet was pregnant with a shop litter.

Awww.... <3 It's so nice to hear all your stories. :)

We‘ve got two piggies with human names. This cheeky fella here is called Cornelius (his full name is Lord Cornelius Pigglesworth :)) :))):

And this here is Benito. OH‘s grandpa named him and I‘m being assured that he‘s not named after Benito Mussolini... I do have my doubts though :))

Lord Cornelius sounds very steampunk! I love It!
