If you were aware of two guinea pigs (unbonded) both without water in this weather, what would you do?

Oh gosh that's awlful really... If someone has genuinely forgot to top their water up and it's a one off I would let it go but if I saw piggys without water consistently in this weather I would call the RSPCA.

I think it really depends on the situation....

I’d double check that the animal had no water as some may just have it in a bowl instead of the obvious bottle (not ideal but some pigs do drink this way)

In a store, take plenty of pictures and demand to see a manager, send pictures to appropriate council, there is a department that gives pet shops licences etc. They will only ever act on evidence so make sure you write date, time etc. how long you were there and they were without water etc.

Neighbour/Friend, give the animal water with a bottle, and try to talk friendly to the person about the importance of giving them water, if they get hostile contact RSPCA and voice your concern.

Someone unknown/or who your uncomfortable talking to, call RSPCA for further advice, in temperatures like this it is deemed animal cruelty to neglect the animals 5 welfare needs and they may in turn involve police to contact owners etc. It won’t be anything big but even just a PCSO will sometimes just be able to persuade someone to do something.

Depends on the circumstances, as outlined by twiams.

Where in North Somerset are you? I'll go break their legs if you don't want to ;)

I agree with twiams, but the main thing would be to get them some water ASAP.

I agree.
Do they have water yet?

Sorry for the delay, water was replaced but in fact one piggy had run out and the other's water bottle was lying on the floor. These are two unbonded piggies living in separate hutches! It's a local government organisation whom I have been in contact with over the on going welfare issues of their pets mallethead

Why do people have pets if they can't be bothered to give them even the most basic need. Stupid peoplemallethead
Doesn't sound as if these people bother to check on them regularly throughout the day.

I've just been past to check on them, could only see one that's in a hutch run combo, that's very small. No grass as the run is never moved and it's all dried up, no veggies only a bowl of nuggets. The piggy came up to me and put a paw on the wire, just looking at me. So heartbreaking as I cannot do anything to help him.

I think it’s time you called the RSPCA,

0300 1234 999

Thats a 24 hour cruelty line, the pigs are at risk of heat stroke and many other sever complications of dehydration.

Where are these pigs? If more people kick up a fuss, something is more likely to be done. Where they are also depends on what route of action to take.

I would steal them, then go and say you have just seen one of them escape and run for the hills but you dont know where its gone!

x

I agree with toffee, I would go get a box and take him/her out of there. Please call the RSPCA ASAP. Poor poor little mite

On the topic of stealing I know somebody who did just that, a piggy was in an INDOOR cage OUTDOORS in the middle of winter with no cover or shelter, she jumped the fence and took the piggy who was massively underweight. Caps were needed :-P I dont condone stealing either but in the middle of winter a few years back it was hitting -10oC she would have died.

I do not condone stealing animals, this is very wrong! But so is having piggies outdoors in this weather with no water and what you describe Bekki.

I dont agree theft is the best option but no piggy would survive in -10oC for that long and I think she did it in teh spur of the moment, the owners didnt care she'd been put out to die, the cage had a layer of ice in it ...lovely right? ... some people should be shot!

Would this be dealt with swiftly if the RSPCA got involved, because this needs dealing with asap, especially in this heat.
Could you perhaps pick this guinea pig some grass and dandelions until something can be sorted for him.

would you be brave enough to ask them to surrender the guinea pigs to you, if they are not interested in them, even if then you then surrender them to a rescue.

I didnt explain myself properly, i sch extreme circumstances, yes theft is the best option by far!

Take the pigs! I would, its very very hot at the moment, those pigs are in need of desperate help!

If anyone would like to pm me for the details of where the piggy is, please feel free to do so if you would like to contact them.

Is there a guinea pig welfare organisation, as I've been in contact with the Rabbit Welfare Association (who have also written twice!). RSPCA called but I do not know if they went there.

Just walked past with my dog to have a look. The hutch/run has not been moved so still on parched grass, little piggy was wheeking at me so sat on the grass talking to it. There is a 7ft fence around it.

I know what you mean and I agree but legally etc its still theft.

For these pigs for the short term can you get close enough to pop a bottle on? The thing with that if you do is that the RSPCA wont take them if they have water or food etc

The water bottle is back on, but out of view on the picture. My OH has emailed the organisation as I made him come to see the piggy with me, he was upset so included in the email the local Councillor and our MP!

Does that plastic igloo class as shelter, as that's where the little piggy is sleeping tonight, probably on a layer of faeces 8...

Oh my, poor piggy :(

I guess that would shelter him from rain and such but no, I certainly wouldn't class that as shelter. In fact, I hope he doesn't use that during the day as plastic can get very hot in this heat :(

I have plastic domes for my piggies but they only have them in their indoor run in the summer, not in their shed or outdoors.

Is that a ramp into a bedding area? It's very steep, it looks like a chicken coop. Oh so no hay along with no grass, limited water, no companions and a red hot blazing heat. I could cry as that poor little mite x

I have managed to get someone of authority involved who is meeting the people concerned on Friday, fingers crossed for a good resolution.

That's not to say no one else can contact them!

Also have a good idea there are two piggies and one rabbit (all kept separately) have never seen the other piggy out in a run, whether there is a legitimate reason for that or not, I have no idea?!

Oh dear not until Friday..... : ( who are these people, sorry to rant but it makes me mad. They should deal with this with immediate effect
