well I'm gutted AGAIN but roddy and red have had a scrap. They woke me this morning running around teeth chattering so I've rushed over and then under inspection it seems red has a bite mark on his bum. Hey are back together now and absolutely fine. But I'm going to put a divider down the middle this morning so they can socialise but not get to each other. Unless as they are fine now do I see what happens? One cage would be 120x62.5 and the other 92.5x86.5, would these sizes be suitable for an individual piggy please? So gutted but don't want to have to take red back to the rescue!

Poor you. I would separate them completely ( in different rooms ) so Roddy would be lonley ( if he is with other piggies he is less likely to pair up with Red again ) so he would be looking for company.

Then Introduce them in a neutral territory ie bathtub separated so they can see each other but not directly touch each other. ( with NO water ). Swap sides so Red is on Roddie's side and Roddy is on Red's side.

Swap sides several sides and if it goes well remove the barrier!

Hiya,

there will be different opinions on this, from my own personal experience, we adopted two himi's, they fought and had cuts, we left them after someone on the forums advising us it might just be a little scrap, but then they had a full blown one and we had to separate. Are you able to keep an eye on them? I wouldn't move any of them to a separate room unless there are guinea's in the other room, they need to be able to smell each other so they don't get lonely, Cesaro is next to the sows and seems very happy, TK has a new friend (fighting himi's). Check out the guides as well they might have some useful information in them for you :)

Introducing And Re-introducing Guinea Pigs

I do apologise I think my fibro is playing up, my arms shaking, so if I do typos you know why.

I want to type more but I can't atm, so I'll tag @Wiebke (Sorry Wiebke :( )

Well I have put a mesh between them so they are separate but can still see, hear each other. There is no way they can get to each other though. I will take a picture later to show you what I've done. I will try to re introduce them but for now they are together but have a see through wall keeping them apart!

Oh no I'm so sorry to hear this! They looked so cuddly and friendly on those photos the other day :( wishing you the best of luck with any re introductions.

Thanks guys,my will try to reintroduce at some point, but if they are going to fight at least the arrangement now they can still see, smell and hear each other. How long should I wait to re introduce? I just don't understand why, they've been getting along so well

One could have tried to dominate the other and the other got pee'd of maybe? In my case it was them both wanting to be dominant :/ We wouldn't reintroduce as they pretty much locked teeth and cut each others necks, Cesaro has a cut paw.

Did you read the link below @Galaxy&nibbles ? I did post it above because I thought it might help :)

Introducing And Re-introducing Guinea Pigs

This is a bit I just copied from it

"Re-introducing fallen-out guinea pigs
Sometimes it can help to separate scrapping boars overnight to see whether their bond is still working. If one of the boars is perking up noticeably when away from his mate, you know that he is not happy in his relationship and you may need to consider alternative solutions. Please be aware that you can do this only a few times without trial separation becoming counterproductive. When you put the boys back together, you will need to follow the instructions below and stage a formal re-introduction first.

If boars have been in a bloody fight with full-on bites, they will rarely go back together. Please be aware of this when you try a re-introduction nevertheless and have a thick towel or an oven glove at the ready. Never try to separate fighting piggies with bare hands!"

After Humphrey and Monty's massive fight where M had his lip bitten through I separated them with a mesh, which they then lay either side of, next to each other and basically didn't move. After a week of this rather pathetic sight I reintroduced in the bath and they've been together ever since with no further problems.
I have found in the past that removing them from sight and smell range of each other meant it was really hard to reintroduce them again.

I am so sorry you are going through this, keeping my fingers crossed they get back together Okay, they seemed so relaxed with each other.

Yes I did thank you, but I missed the bit about overnight. Ok then, perhaps I'll try tomorrow morning then. They have been 'talking' through the mesh and they both seem just the same as they were, so I reLly don't know where it has come from. Red had a little blood, does this count as a bloody flight?

Thank you and I know I just don't understand they were so chilled together, last night they were cuddling together, red had his head laying on roddy and they were absolutely fine.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for re introducing! Thanks for all your kind words and advice, it's very much appreciated :-)

Where was the blood? On his bum?

Like I said, when my two fell out it was bad, we inspected both, one had a gash in his paw and I believe a puncture wound on his face and bite on the lip, the other one had a puncture wound in his neck.

Do you think Red could have been trying to mount or he could have gotten on the other ones nerves somehow? Are they chattering teeth now or doing anything aggressive?

The blood was like a puncture wound as you've described it and it was around his bum. I can take a picture when I get home (had to go to the in laws!) my guess is that red has annoyed him -as the last few days he has started rumble strutting at roddy. When I was last at home with the separation up, when they were near each other they were rumble strutting for a few seconds (both of them) but that was all, and then they'd happily go off to each of their hay squeaking away happily. I'm going home shortly so will seeing them and see how they are getting on.
After it happened, when I put them back together in the cage, it wasn't long before the teeth chattering started again hence why I seperated them, I don't know if that helps?

Ooo, I'm not sure what's happened there then! Maybe Red's trying to dominate Roddy and annoying him.

Hmm, can you put them somewhere neutral and see if they still do it? but make sure you can get to them fast though. Also if you haven't already (which you probably have) give Red's wound a bit of a clean with warm boiled salty water.

I wonder if they will go back together :/ *crosses fingers*

I can only think red has annoyed roddy. Somewhere neutral? Oh yes in the bath tub! No I haven't actually, I thought about it, but then wasn't sure if I should or jut leave it alone (as don't know if it would be safe or not for piggies) I will do it when I get back, thank you.. And everything crossed. Thank you again

:( He sounds a bit like Cesaro, but only it's sort of Cesaro's fault, we even tried to show him Tyrion our 11 week old boar... he chattered his teeth and ran at him.. so we're not sure we can get him a cage mate lol, he seems pretty happy next to his sows though lol.

Very naughty! Well roddy anyway. My boys have been on the floor of every room in the house, the only part I an think of that roddy has never been is in the bath

Please disinfect any wounds with saline solution (either sterile from the pharmacy or home-made) or hibiscrub. If the wound looks like a puncture, it is most likely caused by a full-on deep bite and should be seen by a vet, especially if you notice an abscess swelling forming in the next couple of weeks.
First Aid Kit For Guinea Pigs

You can try intros on neutral ground ( you have been given the relevant links already), but you may have to be realistic that after a full-on bite things may not work out. The two cages are sufficient to keep a single piggy as an alongside neighbour in.
