Hey Piggy People,

I have a found two small chunks of fur from one of my guinea pigs. I only have two guinea pigs and they are both 6 months old females. I have inspected the guinea pig with the matching fur, and there are no bald spots on her. Also, her activity level is normal. AND, there is no dandruff and no scratching

They don't fight, but they will make rumble noises at each other. I think they are going through puberty and working out hierarchy.

One last thing, they were at the vet last week for a regular check- up, and both left with a healthy report.

What do you guys think is going on?

Hmmmmm, Well done for checking her out. Could have been a spot of barbering by one of the piggies? Could you see the roots of the hair? Keep a close on on things and check her over regular just to make sure no skin issues brewing, but if no bald sports, sore skin or dandruff it sounds okay. Please keep us updated

They hair is long with dry ends that keep the clump of fur together. And is barbering a bad thing?

Keep an eye our for a potential fungal infection. They are characterised by hairs coming out with larger skin flakes and see a vet if you notice any developing bald areas in the coming days.

Here is our barbering guide: Barbering ( Eating Hair)

:agr: Clumps of hair with skin attached can indicate a mites/fungal infection. Watch out for itching, scratching or biting of the skin. These can be easily sorted by the vet if needs be
