My piggie Zeus is losing hair on his bum. He lives with Apollo, who is fine (no hair loss) and Zeus is not scratching often, so I don’t think it’s mites. What could it be? Please help!

Hi! Check with your vet for mange mites, fungal, barbering and only lastly as a default if mites and fungal treatment have not had any success for 'teddy skin'; your piggy looks like a teddy. Because of their thick, dense hair that prevents sufficient aeration, some teddies can pe prone to skin issues.

It is a slow process of elimination which your vet will start with the potentially fatal issue (mange mites) and then working down the ladder in terms of severity.
Please be aware that we are legally not allowed (nor are we qualified) to diagnose or treat without a hands-on examination. All we can do is show you which avenues you may want to pursue with your vet.

Please do not home treat on spec with low dosed, broad spectrum shop products that can only temporarily suppress symptoms and do not self-diagnose, especially without experience. You can easily make things worse than better and spend a lot of unnecessary money along the way before ending up paying a lot more in terms of vet care for having to treat a by then advanced problem.
