Last night my hamster died. I love her to pieces and was surprise she died at such a young age. She was sick when we got her and I’m now worried that my guinea pigs might get sick at well. There cages are right by each other and even though they seem active, so did the hamster. My hamster was suddenly really tired and not eating or drinking, could my guinea pigs get the same illness?

Try keep an eye on their weight and book an appointment just in case :)

Hi!

I am very sorry for your loss. We have a Rainbow Bridge section that is open to all our members' pets, if you'd like to pay a tribute.

Most illnesses thankfully don't jump species, but please keep an eye on your piggies in the next two weeks (quarantining period) and see a vet promptly.

Thank you, and yea I’m going to check out the page. I just wanted to make sure

I'm really sorry for your loss. I have hamsters too and it's unfair how quick their little lives fly by. ((HUGS)) to you.

Most diseases are species specific and not a lot are spread simply by having cages in the same proximity, but keep an eye on your pigs in spite of that. I think the likelihood of passing an illness is pretty slim, though.
