Hand feeding/baytril causing diarrhoea?

Peppa produced some solid poos! but tbh it's too early to celebrate, and she is still trying to eat hay. Nela seems really quiet, refusing hand feed so I'm literally forcing it. The vet said that blood was associated with diarrhoea, although she hasn't got diarrhoea anymore. I've seen any poos from her since the morning and she is wet on the bottom, not dirty-poo, just wet.

UTI, perhaps? The blood may be in her wee, not her poo (they tend to do both at the same time). Being wet underneath can also be a sign of a UTI. It is very strange that they are both so ill though.

I think if they were my piggies I'd be searching for a more cavy-savy vet to take them for a second opinion. Nela doesn't sound very happy, bless her.

I hope they pick up soon x

Isobel, if you tell us your location we may be able to point you in the right direction of a cavy savvy vet near to you.

I've been to the exotic vet in York before. I need advice on Peppa. She shows interest in veggies, we gave her some parsley, broccoli(didnt eat it) and lettuce (just as much as the size of a finger nail). She doesn't have diarrhoea but soft poos. Shall I can continue hand feeding only until poos are solid-solid or introduce some veggies slowly? Or quit hand feeding and introduce veggies? She also eats hay but tiny amounts. There is no more blood on Nela, she seems more alert but doesn't eat on her own. The muscle spasms have passed, I think she is like a day behind Peppa in 'symptom's. On Sunday Peppa had muscle spasms all day, Nela had the during the night.

Nela has horrible smelly diarrhoea ;s I don't know whether it's more important to give her recovery feed or fluids. I just gave her 10ml of water with probiotic. Will feed in 2 hours. Peppa eats on her own, she had a cucumber and parlsey and even a bit of treat stick.

If its liquid diarrhoea she needs to go to a competant vet ASAP I'm afraid

How awful to have both your piggies so ill. I hope you can get to a competent vet and get them sorted out. Everything crossed for Peppa & Nela. x

It's physically and mentally exhausting to get up every 3-4 hours to feed them, and worrying 24/7. I admire people have the strength to look after chronically ill children..
Peppa is 80% back to normal, still hand feeding but less, she eats hay and some veggies, her poo is quite solid.
Nela's diarrhoea stopped after switching from recovery to critical care, she has soft poos but no liquid! . She picks bits of hay on her own now too!
Also they're in separate cages now, so they can't pass any bacteria etc to one another.
I've been to the vets to find out I should just carry on with hand feeding and giving water.

So. I was out of the house 16-21, I feed both of them with critical care at 16 and left. When I came back both pigs where 85% normal with solid poos! I feed them critical care with probiotic in the evening and then soaked burgers at 5am. Peppa is fine, but Nela had diarrhoea in the morning again, she was given the royal canin electrolytes and I think that contributes to the diarrhoea, as I never gave them to Peppa and she recovered much quicker.
Peppa had 3ml of critical care and veggies for breakfast, I even gave her some lettuce:) Nela had 10ml critical care and no electrolytes. I'll stick to the critical care only from now.

Solid poos in both cages! Nela is still on critical care, no electrolytes > no diarrhoea! :) Peppa is now eating by herself with around 10ml of critical care throughout the day:)
