hand rearing baby...?

ive managed to catch cleo and yes unfortunatly she has no milk... :(
no signs of mastitis though which is good for her...
rose(the baby girl) seems to have picked up slightly but cant seem to get to grips with drinking from a syringe... so i think its going to take her a little while to get used to it...
cleo also seems to be alot happier since ive taken the baby away...(shes in a pouch around my neck under my top to try and keep her warm... he brothers there aswell)
shes been eating and drinking well and has managed to tip her pigloo over eating hay extremly rapidly... :)
so i think the best thing might be to give her a break...

Glad to hear it's not mastitis and that Cleo and her babies are doing better. Have you thought about trying a bottle for Rose, she might get on better with that than the syringe. You might be able to get one from the vets or online.

thats a brill idea... ive got the vets tomorow and I'm sure they'll have one... :)

am loving reading the updates on thorn and rose not forgeting cleo. You are doing an amazing job and couldn't do any more I do hope all goes well and that your sleep deprivation doesn't last too long. Keep up the good work! x

No probs, just thought it would be more of a natural reflex for her as it'll be much the same action drinking from the bottle as it was suckling from her mum. When my aunty and uncle's piggy had babies years ago, we had to hand feed some of them and we got on much better with a bottle.
 
i think becuase she has fed off mom she cant cope with the syringe...
but thorn now latches on the syringe and drains it quick as... :)

cant beleive what happened today...
i feel so guilty....
i put the cage the babies are in, upstairs at night so they dont get cold...
but this morning i was carrying them down the stairs tripped on the stair gate at the top and fell down the stairs but the cage with the babies in went flying down the stairs aswell...8...
thorns his usual self... still eating and drinking and toileting well.... but rose (whos extremly weak anyway) doesnt seem to be moving well at all... she wasnt to start with but I'm worried ive hurt her...
ive got the vets first thing in the morning... but I'm totally heart broken about this at the moment...
I'm totally gutted....
 
Don't beat yourself up over it. I know it happened but sometimes accidents do happen and you can't do anything about it. I hope little Rose is going to be ok, but that doesn't mean you should beat yourself up over falling down the stairs with the cage.

My sentiments exactly - how awful for you to have this added stress at this time, you have nothing to feel guilty over - you are doing everything to get these poor babies through.

That must have been so scary for you. I hope you're ok and didn't hurt yourself. You're doing so much for these little piggies. Don't feel guilty for the accident. Big hugs. x

i was holding her and it was verry peaceful...

Oh Hun, I'm so sorry. Do Not blame yourself though. You gave her the very best chance in life. You should be proud of what you've done - I really admire you! Accidents happen to us all and its possible the fall had nothing to do with her passing away. Take care. Big hug to you x

I've been following this thread and what a sad outcome. Poor little lady, it obviously wasn't meant to be and you did your best for her. Keep going, you're fab xx
 
Poor little one. Hugs to you. I hope you are not beating yourself up over this. She was weak from the get go, and you tried to save her life. Be thankful you got to spend sometime with her and her brother together. Now Thorn needs you more along with the mum and every other piggie you have.

You have any photos of Rose you like to share while she was a live? I think she must have been gorgeous if Thorn was pretty handsome

Awww Rose is completely adorable.... No wonder you fell in love with her.... Such a shame for her but I guess things happen and sometimes I think it was for the better. I have to admit though, she was gorgeous. I am sure Thorn will be very handsome and such a good looking piggie when he is fully grown. Keep up the good work with him and I know it will pay off when you have him reach his first birthday!

Cleo's doing really well...
shes got a massive appetite... and resting alot... i think shes just knackered...
thorns doing well he ate 3.5ml of milk this morning... :)

So sorry to hear about Rose. I really admire what you are doing for your piggies and I know that Rose must have realised how much she was loved and cared for. Love and squeaks from Misty and Storm too x
