A few weeks ago my gorgeous little girl went to heaven. She was nearly seven and a half years old and we had been through a lot together and she left a gaping hole in all our lives. I will write a little obituary soon when I can as her story is truly inspirational.

She was the matriarch of the herd, my first guinea as an adult and not one guinea ever argued with her even though she was never aggressive, she was a natural leader. So when she died she left a very sad and confused three guineas behind. Despite seeing her body and acknowledging her passing the remaining herd went very quiet, very nervous and were just very unhappy. They had no leader to draw confidence from.

So I took the plunge and I took them to see Anna at Wheek and Squeak http://wheekandsqueak.webs.com/ (where my current guineas are rehomed from). Anna was so patient and after some discussion and letting the guineas meet their new friends, we ended up with three guineas. Two little ones (Biscuit and Titch) whose mother had died when they were one week, and one older girl (Bella) whose owners no longer wanted her when her companion died.

The happy ending is that I have one of the happiest herds I have ever had, its so balanced, no bickering or chasing, they all get on and love each other its just wonderful. I am just sad that my little girl was not around to enjoy it too.

See pigture below for a group shot (left to right is Cagney, Biscuit, Bella, Sebastian, Titch and Lacey). Believe it or not they just sat there and posed!

Thank you Anna for making my guineas so happy and for being so patient in making sure we got the right mix of personalities.

AWWW - what a lovely group! I am a big fan of dating single piggies or small groups at a good rescue, too! It is soooo worth it!

PS: If you copy/paste the IMG code in photobucket into your post instead of clicking on the direct link code, we can see the pictures directly. You can always check whether the pics work by clicking on the "preview post" button under your thread.

Yes I agree, and its so much fun! I mean where else can you go and spend hours choosing piggies, talk about all things piggy and watch them choose their friends...I just cant think of anything better!

I'm so sorry you lost your little girl.

Your new herd looks full of character and I'm glad everyone has settled so quickly. xx>>>x)

Thank you Flintstones..BTW did you get my PM a few weeks ago? So sorry about Patrick, him and Thelma were very similar in so many ways.

I did, I thought I replied. They where to very special piggies and both will be sorely missed as always say it's the bad part of piggy ownership!

Ahh no I did'nt see anything! Damn technology ! Glad you are OK and yes, the worse part of keeping guineas :( You get very close to them when they need so much care. I think they are popcorning in piggy heaven now together!

Ooh, I love a good group line-up shot; I think it's the way that some piggies take the opportunity to pose and some just look decidedly unimpressed with the whole thing...bit like a human group photo! :)) They're all gorge, by the way. :)

What beautiful girls x)
Your story is so inspiring and rescue piggies are amazing, we only have 18 :x
So sad you lost your little one recently, she'll be watching from the Rainbow Bridge and popcorning that you have helped other needy little ones x>>
Hugs x
