Guinea Slave
Adult Guinea Pig
A few weeks ago my gorgeous little girl went to heaven. She was nearly seven and a half years old and we had been through a lot together and she left a gaping hole in all our lives. I will write a little obituary soon when I can as her story is truly inspirational.
She was the matriarch of the herd, my first guinea as an adult and not one guinea ever argued with her even though she was never aggressive, she was a natural leader. So when she died she left a very sad and confused three guineas behind. Despite seeing her body and acknowledging her passing the remaining herd went very quiet, very nervous and were just very unhappy. They had no leader to draw confidence from.
So I took the plunge and I took them to see Anna at Wheek and Squeak http://wheekandsqueak.webs.com/ (where my current guineas are rehomed from). Anna was so patient and after some discussion and letting the guineas meet their new friends, we ended up with three guineas. Two little ones (Biscuit and Titch) whose mother had died when they were one week, and one older girl (Bella) whose owners no longer wanted her when her companion died.
The happy ending is that I have one of the happiest herds I have ever had, its so balanced, no bickering or chasing, they all get on and love each other its just wonderful. I am just sad that my little girl was not around to enjoy it too.
See pigture below for a group shot (left to right is Cagney, Biscuit, Bella, Sebastian, Titch and Lacey). Believe it or not they just sat there and posed!
Thank you Anna for making my guineas so happy and for being so patient in making sure we got the right mix of personalities.
