Little Pig

So, I went to see Jenny at crawleyguineapigrescue.org today and we have started the process of pairing Little Pig with one of her beautiful piggies, Bobby. Initial introductions were hump heavy (around 45 minutes of mischeif before some teeth chattering began!), but given that Little Pig is 3 and Bobby is 1, things went better than I expected them to.

I have brought Bobby home with me and am keeping them separated for the time being. Bobby is currently in a cage inside Little Pig's open c&c style cage and I will be swapping them over tomorrow so they can get used to smells etc.

I cannot remember the last time I have seen Little Pig so happy. He is prancing around and chirping. They are both very interested in each other, have been following each other about and have been doing lots of face sniffs through the bars.

I don't want to get my hopes up too much, as I know these things don't always work out. But so far, so good and if things keep going like this, I'm quietly optimistic.

I'm not sure how to upload photos to threads, but I'll try to add some in a bit.

A massive thank you to Jenny for all of her time today!

Rachel.

Hopefully this will work - thank you for the tutorial squeakypigs! I'll try to get some better pictures soon:

Aww, that looks very promising. Look how chilled Little Pig is lying outside the cage showing off his chicken leg to Bobby :)) I really hope the bonding works.

I can't stop watching them! Every five minutes I'm back to see what they are up to - wish I didn't have to go to work tomorrow.

Thats looking good between them! fingers crossed it works out for them both!

Awww, they are lovely x) Good luck with the bonding!

Fabulous news! Both are gorgeous-looking piggies and complement eachother perfectly! x)

Fingers crossed they soon become the best of friends (and stay that way forever!)

Oh they look so cute and judging by their body language they look relaxed too. :)

:)) made me think of that conversation

LP "So I have noticed that if you poke your leg out like this (pops out chicken leg) the mummy will go crazy and feed us more veggies!"

B "Oh, I will try that out tomorrow!" :))

They were both just chicken-legging at the same time. I tried to take a photo, but they moved before I managed it, so have a picture of blurry ginger fluff balls instead.

Ooooh really hope it all works out! They certainly look very interested in each other and let's hope they will be best friends for a very long time!xx>>>

Thought I'd share another photo with you all. I'm a huge fan of symmetry (I'm strange, I know) and the Piggies decided to indulge me (with food-bribery):

I've really fallen for Bobby this week, he is such a sweety!

That looks very positive! Especially the last pic! xx>>> What kind of behaviours have you been seeing? (interested because i'm still attempting to bond Fin with the girls!) Any teeth chattering? Yawning?

Ps, love the chicken legs poking out! x)x)x) He's obviously feeling relaxed around him!

Awwwwww lovely! Bobby has his little 'chicken leg' out so he's obviously feeling very relaxed. Hope Little Pig is also feeling nicely chilled out with the situation :)

That looks like lovely long strands of hay there - which type is it? (Or is it grass?) And if you don't mind me asking, what are the orange things on top of the water bottles? Sorry, I'm being very nosey today! x

EDIT: Didn't see that last pic before, for some reason...just spotted Little Pig's cute legs sticking out also. Bless!

The first time they met (with Jenny), all they did was hump. After about 45 minutes of that, some teeth chattering started and we separated them.

The second time I put them together (on my own), serious teeth chattering and big show your teeth yawns started up within 2 minutes - my fault as it wasn't on neutral territory.

The third time is today (first with Jenny, but she has gone now), no aggression of any kind for the first 2 hours - Pig has been grooming Bobby's ear, they have had a nap together. However, as I am writing this, things are getting a little rowdy. Nothing serious yet, just a small amount of chasing and a very tiny bit of teeth chattering from Little Pig... Oh, they have both just stopped and are calm again!

They were both chicken-legging, but one always seems to tuck it away whenever I get the camera out. I was really enjoying Little Pig's double chicken-leg action though!

The hay is Oxbow Western Timothy - which they both love. I got it from the Hayexperts

The orange things are the price tags - they are new bottles that I got yesterday and I haven't gotten around to taking the labels off yet!
