I recently put my first order in with hay for pets (after wanting to stop using pet shops that sell pets) and I received a lovely email from the folks who run hay for pets with the day they sent it and a little message to say that they hope i'm happy with my hay.

Well it arrived yesterday and it smells lovely! Its huge too (the postie who delivered it asked me who buys hay bales nowadays...well obv. little mad ladies who have a small army of piggies). I'm going to be redecorating the hutch's tomorrow - when i say 'i' i mean my OH I'm going to sit and wobble!- and so the boys and tabby will be feasting on some lovely timothy and rye grass mmmm.

Anywhoos just thought I'd recommend their services just in case anyone on here was considering buying some hay! :)

ooo excellent! I was contemplating it but to be honest I brought the timothy hay from wilkinsons and my lot refused to eat it while they had the meadow hay in the cage... they prefer the cheap crappy stuff lol :)) not that I should complain I suppose

Hahahaha! Pigs ey? :)) The boys looove that hay and herbage by Excel(?) so last year for xmas i bought them around £25 worth of herby treat bags well....not one touched the herbs so i ended up giving them away! typical fussy pigs!

Now I'm a little worried.....i hope they like the new hay ive just bought.....i didn't think about them not eating it @) ep!

How big is the 8pounds hay. I can see the weight but have no clue on how big that would be. I pay 16pounds for a bale of hay every 6weeks for my 8 guinea kids.

Hehe mine had no trouble eating it when I was mean and made it the only hay available to them (just to use up the bag really) how dare they make you spend more money on them and turn their noses up at it!

My lot used to eat the Alfalfa King Timothy hay - but at £7.99 for a 1.8KG bag i was getting through at least 2 bags per week (with 10 hungry mouth to feed it goes very quick) - i too looked around and ordered the 9.5KG Timothy and Rye hay from hay for pets and my pigs love it - granted it's not as green as their old hay - but the strands are lovely and long and they can have piles and piles of it to play in/eat - happy piggies. ;)

Hay For Pets will definitely be my hay supplier from now on - excellent value for money and a great service - i placed my order late on a monday evening and my hay was with me on Thursday dinnertime :)

I emailed hay for pets and they called me and had a lovely convo where they explained all the hay types ending in them saying to order the 4.5 kg bale and instead of one hay they sent me 1 (1.8kg bags) of each type! i have since just ordered 9.5kg meadow hay which is lovely and soft and even has thistles in that the rabbit loves. I agree with Laura great quality and service

I placed an order with them and you are so right. They are wonderful and the hay is so cheap too. :)

I tried a local supplier's meadow hay last time I needed some ( in a bale ) and was very disappointed with it ( the hay is also making myself, my husband and my son sneeze ) so I decided to try Hay for Pets rather than just order my usual bale of JR Hay from Zooplus ( as the last bale from them didn't seem as green and fresh as usual ) .
I ordered their sample pack last week and the piglets seemed very impressed with all three types so I put an order in for 9.5kg of Ling and 9.5kg of meadow hay. Got a lovely email today from them to say it's on it's way. :))
Can't believe I'm getting excited about some hay arriving, how daft am I?! @) :(|)

The meadow hay is lush! (my oh thinks I'm off my head when i feel/smell and generally inspect the hay) be careful of the thistles its lucky i love the pigs and rabbit as i am always getting stung! i even got a large readigrass splinter the other day!

i put on a post not so long ago recommending hay for pets as well! i too got a phone call, they could nt be more helpful, its so nice that some people can be bothered nowadays to take the trouble to make the effort to provide a good service- unlike another supplier i tried who i was so dissapointed with x

Thistles aren't good though are they? Is that a bad sign? My pet shop hay used to have those in they were a nightmare :( Is the Ings hay better do you think?

Did you get the 9.5kilo bale? If so can I ask a massive favour and ask whether you could take a picture of the box/bale for me so I can see how big it is? I'm thinking it's the same size bale that I get from the farm shop for my piggles. I'm looking for something suitably nice and yummy for the pigs for christmas and a nice bale of Timothy and Rye would definitely suit them and my pocket! :)

Will try and remember to take a photo when it arrives.

Had an e-mail from Hayforpets - last date to order for Christmas deliveries is the 15th of December.

:)

i have nt had ANY thistles in the meadow hay i got from them !

I've only had them in this batch mine prefer the meadow hay as i've tried them all, pretty sure they can eat thistles safely. my rabbit does too

mine too! I got the timothy hay and they slept on it and ate the cheap stuff instead!

I pay £16 for a bale at my pet shop its great stuff with no thorns people think this is expensive. But if the 9.5kg bale is the same size then its not really. I wouldnt save any money if I ordered from hay4pets unless its much bigger. A photo from someone which be great or measurements. :)p

I would say that the Hay4pets 9.5kg is half the size of a "normal" bale of hay. A lot of the cost in purchasing is in the postage - and I do wish they would combine postage if you order 2 but they won't.

The hay is very good quality but the last lot of meadow hay I received has been extremely stalky and rough, however it does contain dandelion leaf and plantain and I have never had thistles in it. Ings hay is rougher if that is possible!

I tend to change the type of hay my piggies have each day. Hay4pets one day, Alfalfa King Timothy Hay the next and some hay I get from the local supplier the next. They love it all and appreciate the change. I also have some hay from the fields around my Mum's house - handpicked from the edges :x That does has thistles and I pick them out but gawd I go into the bags very carefully :))

I'll get the measurements if you want them because I've just had a delivery.

Our neighbours order in lots of hay for their piggies and keep it in their shed, then we buy bales whenever we need it for ours. That works well for us but I admit I'm intrigued. How much does this Hay For Pets cost and how would we get some?

I think I will have to sample some of these hays :D
I am no good at weight, measurements and guestimates in my head :L what sort of size is a 9.5 kilo bag? If it is a lot, for £15 it sounds like a good deal, especially if the hay quality is good :)
