My baby Hazel died today. She was 7 years and 11 months. I'm so worried for her sister now and keep thinking she will just die without Hazel

I am so sorry for the loss of your piggy. It is so hard to lose a much loved pet, she must have had a great life with you

Here is a thread on helping her sister Looking After A Bereaved Guinea Pig

Sleep well little one

RIP Hazel

We are getting another 2 on Sunday. Is that ok for her?

So sorry for your loss- she was a great age for a piggy.
When Merab was left alone we got 2 babies as companionship- she took to them within minutes and has been happy ever since.
If Hazel’s sister doesn’t take to them then they will have each other.
Do let us know how things go.

Don’t forget to look after yourself now as you grieve for Hazel

I don't know if I'm going to get over her

So sorry for your loss. Hazel was a fantastic age for a piggy, it's always hard to lose a much loved pet. Hope your other piggy is ok.
Sending hugs.
Sleep tight little Hazel.xx

So sorry for your loss but she reached a great age and was clearly happy living with you. The short answer is that no you will never get over her, my personal belief is that grieving is not about getting over the loss. It's about moving through the motions and learning to cope without them in our lives anymore. Be kind to yourself

My condolences for your loss. It's always a devastating loss most any member has felt here and empathize completely. Take some time to grieve. It's great of you to add a couple new friends for her sister. Hugs.

After a death is the guinea pigs weight supposed to go up and down?
This morning daisy had lost 30g but tonight she's back to almost her normal weight.

That is good news. Please be kind to yourself. the pain does get less raw with time

I have copied and pasted the below from the bereavement guide on the forum -

The onset of the grieving process is generally characterised by feelings of guilt or failure; we all experience them to some degree or other and it usually takes some time until head and heart come together again. This can be a lot worse in the wake of an unexpected/unexplained sudden death, a major battle for the life of a beloved piggy, if you have struggled to get a guinea pig to a vet in time or had to make the decision to put your piggy to sleep.
If you would like to speak about your feelings and would welcome the sympathy and support from other people who understand how much the loss of a beloved guinea pig can affect you, then you are always welcome to start a thread in our Guinea Pig or General Chat section.

Sometimes, it can help to start a diary about your feelings, but also about all the little things that you are missing, about snatches of shared things and precious snatches of memories, especially if you are inconsolable.

If you struggle with the grieving process to the extent that you are unable to get on with your daily life or sleep, or move on after a suitable time, please contact a pet bereavement service. There are free and anonymous phone lines in many countries available that can help you cope with your loss. Pet bereavement can happen to anybody; there is no shame in it!

Thanks. That helps a lot. Hazel was sudden but was old so on the cards. Got two more now to comfort Daisy. Luna and Trixie.

I feel for you, having lost a very much loved piggy nearly a year ago. Hazel must have had a very happy life with you to live to that age but has left you with a piggy shaped hole in your heart. Allow yourself to grieve, however long it takes, be kind to yourself and give her sister lots of TLC. Popcorn free over the rainbow bridge little one. R.I.P Hazel xx
