Please send lots of healing vibes for Ellen.

I've had my suspicions for a few days that she's been squeaking whilst gong to the toilet and last night, she started weeing blood :(

I started her off on Septrin and metacam and thankfully my vet is able to see her today. However, as I am tied up today, my parents have offered to take her.

Some of you may remember that around this time last year, I ended up with all four of my piggies being poorly, sadly I lost Enoch and Erika :(

Emma was diagnosed with IC after having many tests and I can't face going through it all again with Ellen.

I don't cope well when any of my animals are poorly.

I'm so worried about her :(

x

Huge huge hugs Claire. Am sending lots of healing vibes to little Ellen. It is so distressing when they are poorly. You are an amazing piggy mum - one of the best. Please let us know how she gets on today. Keeping you both in my thoughts. Much love X

I am sending all my healing vibes to Ellen and a virtual hug to you, too Claire. You are an excellent piggy slave.

So we are four days in with the medication and Ellen is still uncomfortable whilst going for a wee and still passing bloody urine :(

How long before the Septrin should kick in? I'm really worried about her :(

So sorry to hear Ellen is still struggling.
I am not an expert, but if I was you I would give the vet a quick call and ask them.
I would expect the Septrin to have kicked in by now.
Is she also on a pain killer/anti inflammatory?
Hope she picks up soon.

Thank you.

Vet has said to give it a week and then she will test her urine to see if the infection is going down.

She's on metacam too.

It just worries me so much as I had this problem with Emma this time last year. She needed scans and X-rays etc until she was finally diagnosed with IC. I don't have the strength to go through it all again :( I'm just really going for a uti that'll clear up quickly x

Hopefully the Septrin will kick in soon - try not to think through all the other scenarios - easier said than done , I know!
I know you read about Barbara's Dora - sometimes another AB is needed but more often Septrin plus metacam seems to work - you will have seen examples of that on here

Come on Ellen - get well soon

Yes, when Emma was having problems last year, she had a urine cultured at the lab to find a suitable AB (that was after weeks on septrin) but no bacteria would grow so after that, scans and X-rays etc, IC was diagnosed.

Ellen definitely had bacteria in her urine on the dip stick so hopefully it is just a simple uti

I'm also a little concerned as my vet hasn't requested to see her again, she has just asked me to take her a urine sample in a weeks time. I imagine my vet will either ring me with the results and take it from there.

Obviously if Ellen goes downhill, I will be booking her an appointment.

They're such a worry :( xx

i think take her back if you are concerned at any point, the vet can monitor it with the wee and their is no harm in pestering them for results, obviously if she is still showing discomfort in a week then you'll get her back there. Hopefully the Ab's will do the trick. Yes, they are worry and you had a torrid time last year or so. Huge hugs and lots of vibes x

What dose of metacam is she on Claire? My vet gives it twice a day in these circumstances. It can take a week for antibiotics to be fully effective. Poor little Ellen xx

Thank you Barbara.

She's only on 0.2ml although I've now increased it to 0.4ml.

Emma is on 0.2ml daily but that's due to her IC

I get paranoid with metacam especially as Ellen is so young :(

She's only been on the Septrin since Friday and her first dose was old stuff (January 2016) as that's all I had in until I could get to the vet on Saturday. She's been on a new fresh batch since then x

How is she doing now Clair?
And sign of improvement yet?
It certainly sounds like you are doing everything possible, so fingers crossed it's just a matter of time until the meds kick in.

*Touch wood* she seems fine in herself and is maintaining weight.

I just feel so bad seeing her in discomfort and I'm always thinking worse case scenario :( x
