Please send Emma lots of healing vibes. She is currently being treated for her third uti since May :( Bladder problems are a huge worry for me and fill me with dread after losing two piggies to bladder problems :(

She is back at the vets next Monday x

Sending vibes!

Thank you. So far Emma is being a good girl and taking her septrin. I just worry as this is the third time this year and I'm already feeding them a low calcium diet.

Is it possible she has Interstitial cystitis? you could try adding in vegan Glucosamine?

Thank you @helen105281 @Wiebke has suggested the same thing.

I am seeing my vet on Monday so will discuss it all with her. Is cystease prescription only or can you buy it online do you know? If so, what kind would I need to buy, how do I give her the capsule and anything else I should be asking the vet? x

Sending Emma lots of love and vibes Claire xx

Cystease is not prescription we got ours from vetuk. Syringe it with some water, doses vary @helen105281 will be able to advise i think x

I think the standard dose is 125mg a day, but it is a while since I used Cystease. The dose for Glucosamine is the same though I dose at double the amount. A friend did a lot of research into the dosing in conjunction with vets and had good results with dosing at 250mg a day. You should check what dose your vet would want you to use though.

One thing I have found with bladder pigs is to try and feed them extra water. This flushes the bladder daily and I believe prevents build up. I had a bladder piggy who had two ops for stones and had a poor future ahead. For four years every day she had 10-15 ml water every morning and night. She lived until she was 7 when a tumour finally took her. I really think it helped and she liked it. I warmed it in winter which she loved!

I have also used Cystease successfully with guineas susceptible to cystitis and always have some spare just in case.

Oh no. UTIs make my heart sink too, after a fiasco I had with one of mine. But Emma has better meds and forum (and your) knowledge to help with her treatment. I wish her all the very best, and healing vibes going her way.

our vets use cerenia (alongside the antibiotic and metacam) for bladder issues. it's an anti-inflammatory that works specifically on the bladder wall but covers in a different way to the metacam. seems to be similar to the cystease that others use but could be worth asking about aswell x

Thank you. Something else to speak with my vet about.

I'm getting worried now as I've just done another urine test with a urine test stick and Emma still has blood in her pee on day 6 of Septrin. Should I be worried or is 6 days still too early for a uti to clear?

When Enoch had his uti, he was on septrin for 3 weeks but as I was in hospital at the time, I have no idea how long he actually had blood in his urine as my hubby can't remember.

Claire don't worry to much your doing all the right things. I know in the past you've had bad experiences with stones and urinary trouble but to be honest they are very much treatable :).

My little Wilma had a stone manipulated out last week, girls because of there girly bits don't necessarily have to have a huge operation.

My Pebbles ended up on antibiotics for 3 weeks to clear a stubborn UTI she never did develop stones. Has your little one been Xrayed yet?

Thank you Jo. That's reassuring to know. I just worry so much over bladder problems.

No, Emma hasn't been x rayed yet. I know it isn't a firm diagnosis but my vet couldn't feel anything abnormal when she felt around her bladder on Monday but says we will discuss xraying her if there is so improvement by Monday. I am wondering if it is just a stubborn uti which will need a longer course of septrin which is what I'm hoping

This one was removed last week.

In January last year she passed this one herself.

Something we do need to stop happening obviously but it does show how resilient our girlie's are.

To be honest we didn't even Xray for Wilma's we could feel it and she didn't even cry when urinating.

I think your doing the right thing trying Ab's first, there's certainly no harm.

Will your vet Xray without Ga? If so what harm is there in getting her Xrayed at the very least it will put your mind at rest.
