Healing vibes needed for Jerry

Oh poor Jerry and you too. I wish you both luck. I hope he gets better soon.

You are doing a great job. Add plenty of probiotic to the syringe food and aim to get between 10 mls and 20 mls in per sitting. By now the antibiotic should be out of the system, but the changes it will have made will take longer to address. As long as you are keeping a steady amount of food going through his gut, together with the gut stimulant, you should start to see some improvement. If you can encourage him to move around that will help too. Feel free to message me, call me or whatever regardless of the time, throughout the night, if you want any advice. Make sure you get some rest too though as caring for a sick piggie is exhausting. x

Crossing all fingers and paws here for you both x

keeping all fingers and piggy toes crossed for Jerry here. seeing him so unwell must be heart breaking for you but with your love and care and his fighting spirit i am sure he can get through this. x

Thanks everyone for all the thoughts, well wishes and positive vibes :)

We made it through the night. He begrudgingly took his feeds (as well as having a nibble on my finger) and at 3.30am this morning both him and me were entirely covered in Recovery mix. He had another feed at 7.30am, as well as another dose of gut stimulant.

He has shown some interest in his hay, and has nibbled on a small piece of lettuce and the outside of a piece of cucumber. I was hoping to offer him some fresh grass too, but we had a frost last night and the lawn is frozen. If it warms up later I'll try to give him some then.

I think its very much an uphill struggle and I'm trying not to get my hopes up. He seemed like he had turned a corner yesterday morning, but then dramatically went down hill again last night. We are now taking it one hour at a time.

Cath xx

:( you are doing your absolute best for him, how is he this morning? x

He's currently sleeping on his snugglesafe. I think he's fed up of me now - every time I go near the cage he has that look as if he's saying 'oh no, not her again!' If I'm not sticking a syringe in his mouth, then I'm chasing him around the cage with a piece of cucumber, or gently nudging him so that he keeps moving around. He must hate me! :(

he won't hate you. he will know you are looking after him. sending him lots more vibes. x

Aw... Bless him. Hoping today he takes more food and water x

awww fingers crossed hes getting there. I know what you mean about the cage, poor Oscar knows I'm going to shove a syringe down his throat everytime I'm near him lol, how come they dont realise its for their own good!

Jerry's just had his second dose of emeprid, with a final one due tonight. There's no poos in his cage, but I have seen him eat a few so I think he's just re-ingesting them all to get the extra nutrients. He had a feed at 1pm (around 12ml before he promptly bit me to tell me he'd had enough), and has since eaten a little grass, a piece of cucumber, carrot and some hay.

I'm heading out in a few hours to help with a piggy train so the OH will be taking over supervision. I've prepared a very detailed list for him! x

Good to hear that he is eating a little - keep it up Jerry!

glad to hear he's eating some food on his own, including carrot! from my experience carrot always seems to be the first veg poorley pigs go off and the last they start to eat when their apetite picks up. so i see this as a good sign :) sending more vibes to Jerry x

He's much the same now as he's been all day. Picking at hay, nibbling at bits of veg, only a few poos as he still seems to be eating most of them.

Just a quick question - how long should I keep giving the gut stimulant for? Is it until he is eating and pooing as normal? Would it be harmful to give it if he didn't need it, so if his guts were turning over as normal despite his lack of appetite and poos? Or is it harmless enough. I don't have any experience with Emeprid.

Just keep it going for now! It won't do any harm and it will help to keep things moving whilst there isn't a lot of food going in. xx

Treacle has been on Emeprid for nearly the past month after her last bloaty bout, it won't hurt. It'll just keep pushing things through.

How is he this morning?

I've just been reading this thread and wanted to say keep up the good work, Jerry is a lucky boy to have you as his slave. We harass our boy Spike to death with syringes and cleaning his bottom end, and I often think he must hate us too! You're not alone. Keep us posted, sending lots of love Xx

Jerry would like me to show you something...

Aww gorgeous boy x) Lots of continuing healing vibes x x

It was a full bowl of grass and he virtually emptied it. He has been to the water bottle twice on his own, for the first time since Thursday morning. We've also got a good number of nice, firm poos!

I was preparing his Recovery mix to hand-feed him this afternoon, but thought I'd try him with some fresh grass first. I was amazed when he started eating! He's now foraging through his hay with a little twinkle in his eye again.

I don't think he's out of the woods yet. He's still turning down some of his favourite veggies and he hasn't even looked at his bowl of nuggets in days. I've held off his afternoon feed to try to encourage him to keep seeking out food for himself, but I'll top him up with some later this evening.

His wee has changed colour again. - it's gone from fluorescent yellow, to burnt orange. It could be that the blood is back, but it doesn't look like it usually does when there's signs of blood in his wee. It has completely baffled me! He's booked in to see a new vet tomorrow afternoon in a practice which I've never been to before. I'm hoping to shed some light on his awful reaction to the Convenia, and try again to address the original problem of the blood-tinged urine.

Huge thanks again to everyone that has been thinking of us. A very special, heartfelt thank you to Debbie and Sport billy for being at the end of the phone/keyboard with invaluable advice and support.

First time I've had chance to check in and was worried what I might see, but this is just wonderful news. You're doing a fantastic job Cath. I wish you were closer as I'd be finding plenty of work for you at the Sanctuary. You're a first rate piggie nurse x

Thank you :) I'd love that too!

Go Jerry! Go Jerry! Hope he continues to improve. x
