My old feisty lady Mrs Fudge (aka Fatface Fudge) is not doing so well at the moment. She has arthritis in her knees which we found after finding her soaked in her own wee a month or so back. X-rays showed very advanced arthritis in her knees - worse in one leg than the other. She's on a low dose of metacam which has certainly given her improved mobility and since then we've had no more wee soaking. But last night I thought her breathing looked different (but no noise) and this morning it was notably so. An X-ray today has shown that she doesn't have much room in her chest with what seems to be fluid. Could be infection, heart issues or a space occupying lesion. We're trying her over the weekend with antibiotics, decongestant, and diuretics to see whether she improves and it's infection or something more sinister. She's getting on a bit (I've had her 5 years) so I'm rather worried about my girl. Healing vibes welcome.

Fingers very firmly crossed for Mrs Fudge! :(

We did try fortekor on top of furosemide with Tegyd last summer when she presented with diaphragmic (i.e. heaving sides) breathing and a fluid filled chest, but it didn't make any change in her case so I dropped it again after a few days. Because of the fluid in the chest cavity, it was impossible to see what was going on, apart from the heart being normal looking.

Thanks Wiebke. Review planned for Monday (unless there is a deterioration before then). She's still very interested in food, having spats with Mr Ted and being uncooperative as usual, but has more noticeably heavy breathing. I've just done her evening meds and she's still being feisty as ever. If no improvement then we will be having a heart scan done.

Sending tonnes of healing vibes your way xx

She's on septrin, frusol and Bisolvon as first line of treatment.

Sendng my love and thoughts x x

No obvious improvement this morning but no deterioration either. She is still being her usual uncooperative self, but keen on her veggies and still prepared to play tug of war with her husboar over coriander, so still Mrs Feisty.

Not looking quite so good this evening. Still eating and drinking and fighting me over her plentiful meds but otherwise very quiet and much less feisty. While I was cleaning their cage/run out this evening she spent a good 15 mins on the OH's lap without any attempt to get off, even leaving a pile of poops on his lap - she's usually fond of a five min snuggle on her terms then wants to get off for a wee or a poop. A few other subtle behaviour changes too. Breathing still looks much the same. If any noticeable deterioration overnight we will make the trip to the emergency vet tomorrow. Have to say I'm starting to prepare myself for the worst. :(

Big hugs to you both tonight xx

How is she doing today? x x

Thanks for all your good wishes. Today she's pretty much the same as last night to be honest. No further deterioration but no improvement either. Very quiet and Mr Ted is also quiet and following her and laying next to wherever she is (they don't ever snuggle). To me he seems to sense all is not well and is offering her support. In fact the other pair are also slightly subdued. Our piggy room is a quieter place today.
She's still eating and still resisting meds (typical). She's still interested in what's going on, but in a less active way than usual. As I said last night the signs are subtle but we know all is not well. Piggies are masters at disguising their conditions.
We have an appt first thing tomorrow morning with our vet. I doubt whether there's anything more the out of hours vet could offer so have decided to simply keep her as comfortable as we can give her all her favourite veg and herbs and give the meds another day to work and take her to the appointment in the morning.

Oh poor Fatface Fudge! :( Sending healing vibes and wheeks xx

:( I hope Fudge is doing ok and that you manage to get her back to full health again soon.
What did the vets think this morning?

Hope everything's going okay x
