Teenage Guinea Pig
I just wanted to ask you all to send love to my special boy Jasper, he is very poorly and off to the vets as soon as they open. I am very worried, as only you other lovely people can understand. Wish us luck

Oh not Jasper :...He's one of my drool piggies on here x)
What is wrong with him if you don't mind me asking ")
Sending healing vibes and gentle hugs to your gorgeous boy, really hope it's nothing serious
Chei, Maia and Xuix send their love too to Jasper xoxo

I've been absent for a while on here, life got in the way and I lost track of everyone. My goodness you have some bootiful himis! :a19: Whats the story?
Aw, poor boyHate it when they're poorly 8...
I remember last summer when Harley had a bladder stone and we had to syringe feed him CC over 48 hours before he could have surgery, worrying time but he made it and is now a happy and healthy chubster x)
Always a catch 22 with ab's as it can knock their appetite about, keeping an eye on his weight is always good and syringe food into him in small, regular amounts.
Lots of healing vibes for Jasper, get well soon lovely boy :laluot_29:
Oh no, poor jasper, lots of healing vibes to him.
Is it Critical care food you have? Aim for around 120ml a day if he is not eating. Weigh regulary to make sure he isn't losing weight and is stable. We used to feed between 10ml-20ml per feed
Yes its CC. Thanks, my common sense seems to go out the window when its my own boys!
Lots of support on here for you Sandra - it all sounds quite complex when reading stuff but you will find a way of doing things that suit you and Jasper. Sometimes I panicked and thought, that hasn't happened etc. and compare other peoples experiences to my own rolleyes All of our piggies are different and things are used as a guideline.
As sport billy says, weigh Jasper and make up his feed, if he doesn't like the CC (it's quite aniseedy) mash his everyday pellets with warm water to a mushy consistency. Harley would only take small amounts via the syringe so I would mash it a little thicker and he'd take it from my finger. I offered him all the wrong foods tbh when he was at his worst, cucumber and melon were the only things he nibbled at but anything is better than nothing.
Fresh grass and dandelion leaves were also a hit, wash well before and any residual water will assist hydration.
He seems to like it, the vet told me to add effervescent vit c tablet to the water first. I asked if the flavoured ones were ok cos we have orange ones, she said this was fine. So its tastes quite sweet (i had a lick and it's not half bad|) He seems keen to have a little lick from his water bottle after, he enjoyed getting his chin washed and lips dampened which was encouraging.
Thanks for your encouraging comments Xx
