Hi everyone . So I’m new here and I really need some good advice ,
My Guinea pig Cheddar passed away a couple days ago very suddenly after I came back from my birthday weekend , I think she might’ve been sick but I don’t really know and that’s eating me up alive with guilt , anyways , her best friend / cage mate is named Mac , I got Mac a year or so after cheddar so that cheddar would have a best friend , but now that cheddar has passed away I don’t know what to do .. Mac was upset the first day or two but 3 days later (now) she’s doing really good id say , she is acting the same as she did with cheddar just a bit less chattery , she’s actually letting me pet her and hold her , she also will make this nose when she wants attention and will stick her head up to look at me and wait for me to come love her , I’m really torn about getting another guinea pig for her since she’s a little anti social , she depended on cheddar and now she’s the social one , I don’t want to get a new friend Incase mac doesn’t like her or even worse that one passes away .. I have no clue what to do I’m so torn and heart broken , please any advice? Will my little Mac be okay with just my attention or do I have to get her a new friend ? Is it too soon to get a friend ? Will she become anti social again if I get her a new pal ? Will she be okay without one ? Help please thank you !

Your best bet is to go to a rescue with a good ruputation with rehoming guinea pigs, some of them do guinea pig dating, you can bring your single pig along, and let her choose which pig she gets along with, if you go and get a pet shop pig, you run a big risk of getting one that she wont get along with.

Id try a neutered boar from a rescue, higher chances of a good bond or atleast tolerating each other.

Yes your single pig does need a companion, its very important to them

Hi thank you ! So you don’t think that she will feel like I’m replacing Cheddar ? If I do that will I have to do the two separate cage thing to let them smell each other ? This is my first time dealing with a guinea pig passing , I had cheddar for almost 4 years and Mac with her for 3 , should I wait a little or do this ASAP ? Thank you so much !
