Any injury to the eye is classed as an emergency and needs to be seen and treated by a vet.
Haypoke to the eye is a very common injury In guinea pigs.
I just don’t have 250$ to spend on them any other recommendations

the only thing you can do for an eye injury is vet treatment. There is nothing you can do and we would never recommend any home treatment anyway due to the fact it makes things much worse . If there is an injury, it’ll get more expensive and much worse if it is left untreated

guinea pigs aren’t cheap pets and having a vet fund is so important.

Hi, as said I would seek a vet.

I work at a vet clinic and it isn’t the money we want, we want to help the animals (though unfortunately to do this there is a fee).

Many vet clinics will understand that you are limited in funds so long as you are upfront about it straight away. Just call explain the situation and at least have them seen. It might be conjunctivitis in which case drops could cure the issue; as said above it could be hay poke which needs dealing with ASAP else the eye could ulcerate than it wouldn’t be £250 but £1000 to take the eye out.

Another thing is that eye treatment is the same across the board. So you don’t have to take your girl to an exotic vet. She can be seen by a general vet. Good luck.

Call around and get some quotes. Some vets are quite reasonable, some charge lower fees for small animal exams. Since mammal eyes are all fairly similar, the vet needn't be an exotics specialist (and even if they are, that does not necessarily equate to more expensive- my exotics vet charges less than many dog and cat vets for small animals, and WAY less than other exotic vets around my area, which is why phoning around is so important!) There's just no way for us to answer you over the internet and hay pokes need treatment (they can cause painful eye ulcers and even result in the pig losing the eye in some cases.) Best wishes and hope you figure something out!

thanks all so much i did look around I'm still looking but i dont know if ill be able to find some one to check them out i live in colorado wesmister if anyone knows anyone but with covid i hardly have been able to make rent reacently so i hope you guys can understand and just give recomendations but i gave them both some ophthanlmic gel (all i could find ) i was thinking about giving them Fucithalmic gel but i dont know if that will help though the ophtanlmic is kinda working i think it just fluctuates its wierd its not like a regular eye poke but it did just randomly happen but i did also notic they where both sneezing is anyone a vet i can video call i just dont have ANY monney and it just making me feel worse any recomenations with this new info?

this is mini mama was asleap didnt want to IMG_1150.webpwake her and about this morning was when there eyes started to get cloudy

You should not put anything in their eyes without a vet diagnosing the issue - you could make things worse. That eye looks rather bad, she needs veterinary help.
None of us on here are vets and we cannot diagnose anything.
if they are also showing any respiratory issues, then they need to be seen by a vet.

no i just noticed that they sneezzed a couple times before this happend and i CANT GO TO THE VET gosh yes i know i just cna i dont have any monney and the places that i called said that to even look at them they need 75$

so i kinda have to diagnose it my self and hope for the best so if u have any advise other than the vet like how to diagnose and what i should look back at so my boys dont get it to luckly they are seprated

I’m really sorry but there isn’t anything further we can tell you - getting her to a vet is the only way to make her better and not risking her losing her eye. She will be in pain with it as well and if infection sets in things will get very serious. You or we cannot diagnose and you cannot treat it as you don’t have access to vet grade prescription medications nor the ability to see any internal damage.
Can you borrow some money from someone?

i dont think i can like i said i have been haveing issues with my rent the past 3 months so ive technily taped out all my sources but i do want to say the medisen that ive seen other people use for simular situatons i can find so if anyone or you can just tell me how or what i need to do i can do it

We can’t tell you - similar situation isn’t good enough, you don’t know what damage has actually occurred to your pig‘s case, plus there could still be stray hay under the eyelids which only a vet can get look at and get access to using anaesthetics and tools. A vet is the only person who can diagnose the actual problem and tell you the medicines and dosages required.

If you don’t have the money, try and contact rescues around some offer donations towards vet fees.
If that isn’t an option then unfortunately you MUST think about letting them go to someone whom can afford their care. They are likely both quite sore from the looks of that picture and as hard as it is you must do what is best for them

thanks jesse yes i have been trying to find homes for all of them recently just no one else can ither where i live also thanks for the dono idea didnt think of that i will see if there are any rescuse which could and ok thanks piggies and buns i will try to see if i can go to vet i just dont have money and when i do i will but i need something for right now like is there anything i can do to make them more comterble is there like a numing thing i can give them and also i do want to sate that there moods are ok they are both eating and sleeping like norm there not acting depressed and they are eating

I’m sorry you’re stuck in this difficult situation. You likely won’t like it but (I agree that) the best thing is to surrender your girls to a rescue. It’s really important that they have access to vet care. Have a look on the rescue locator link I’ve put below and make some calls.

As has been said, we can’t recommend anything for you to use on their eyes. We’re not vets and don’t know what’s wrong with them.

It doesn’t matter if they are acting normal, they will be in pain. Guinea pigs, as prey animals, hide their pain and will continue to act normal. its not a case of doing something like numbing it for now because infection will continue and injury deteriorate for every day they don’t get proper treatment which makes it more likely the eyes will be beyond saving.

can you surrender them to a rescue centre. In need of such urgent medical treatment, a centre would likely be able to take them very quickly, get them treated and rehome them once they are better.

thanks piggies i will fallow your advise i have to double check but i think i may even just hand them to you guys sence you have a spot in aroura ill probaly call around to again thanks for trying to help

or wait no siikibam
thanks to sorry thought you guys where the same but still thanks both of you

All the best and let us know how you get on. What you’re doing is a selfless thing so even though you’ll be sad, be proud for putting them first ☺️

ok so i have an update i got a recomendation on what i need to get i found out it may just be a reg hay poke or pink eye and so if it dosent get better i will take them to one of your shelters i think Siikibam and i will be uploading pic to this every day just in case so if anyone notices somthing really really bad i can take them somewhere but for now ill give them meds and time

Who recommended what you can use? As said previously, eyes can go downhill very fast. It could be a simple hay poke but there could have been damage to the eye which, when left, will not heal.

Posting photos here won’t help because the advice will be the same. We’re not vets and even if we were, it needs a hands on examination. You either need to get them to the vet somehow, or you need to surrender them. Whichever you do it needs to be sooner rather than later. Eyes can deteriorate very quickly. You don’t want to end up with it costing even more to sort it out.

I’m sorry if I seem harsh as that’s not my intention. But our advice won’t change. You only have two options and need to decide soon - for the welfare of your girls.

It’s already looking bad. Waiting and putting in a treatment told to by you someone other than a vet is dangerous and unfair on your piggy. She will be in pain. It’s a legal responsibility to provide vet care as soon as it is needed and I'm sorry but you either need to do that or surrender them.

By way of example, just yesterday one of my own pigs was absolutely fine at 8am. I went back to check on them at 9.30am when I saw he had a cloudy and watering eye. A sign of a haypoke. He was seen by the vet 30 minutes later at 10am. When the vet brought him back to me she confirmed that bringing him in so quickly has made all the difference. She found a 1cm grass seed wedged under his eye lid - which could not have been seen without a Vet. She removed the grass seed and then added a dye to his eye. She then shone a light into his eye and using the help of the dye found a huge scratch along his cornea caused by the hay. So in that short amount of time, a lot of damage had been done and he is now on treatment for a week. If I hadn’t sought him such prompt treatment the grass seed could still be in there scratching his eye to pieces and making the prospect of him going blind higher by the minute. Please do not delay getting your girls help.

I agree with what has been said with the right treatment haypoke can be a pretty routine issue and not cause any major problems but the vet needs to remove the hay safely and assess the issue using special dye and lighting. I really do sympathize with your situation Covid has made things so difficult for so many people that have never had financial issues before. one of my little piggies has had hay poke 5 times over lockdown and has always recovered fully in a couple of weeks but vet care is not optional. Sorry that there is no more help I can give don't beat yourself up over it if you have to give them up. I hope your situation improves soon for you and your piggies.

ok i was just giving an updait i did take her in to a free rescue they couldnt do much but they recomened on what i can do right now mini is doing great her eye is still cloudy and defantly recovering the flesh that was poping out has clamed down compleatly mama is having a bit of issue with opening her eye but its geting better

(it was like this bunny farm thing near my house thats why they couldnt do much but a recomendation and thats why i said if i dosnt get better which it has already i will PROMISE to take her to a rescue for care)

and what is they have ’recommended’ you do?
As we said, only a qualified vet can tell you what to do. It doesn’t sound like this ’rescue’ has done much other than enable you to delay getting her a proper diagnosis and prescribed treatment - and no reputable rescue would do that. It won’t get better without quick and proper medical care. The cloudiness is damage to the eye. As my example highlights - anything can be lurking under the eye lid which you cannot see and adding unprescribed ‘treatments’ without getting a diagnosis as to the damage that has already been caused will not be helping her.
