I've tried that, it's so much easier doing the emeraid because it's runny and just goes down like normal medication, oxbox critical care and pellets he seems to spit it out rather than swollow it, even when I make it mushy with apple juice I tried this morning and he started struggling again, when I mixed the emeraid with apple juice he accepted it so much more

Try calling the emergency vet or another practice to see if they have some.

My vet is open at the moment, so some vet will be open.

Its worth a try, as it is a food not a drug, and your piggie needs it, he can't wait till your vet is open again. Good luck.

Have you got any Burgess Blackcurrant & Oregano pellets? I am using them to syringe feed my piggy, I grind the pellets in an old (cleaned) coffee mill & add some warm water to it. Pets at Home sell them so you would be able to get some tomorrow :)

Thank you I think I'm going to try that! I use the burgess nuggets already but the mint ones! So it shouldn't upset their stomachs with the change of food either :) thank you, it appears speckles weight all week has been stable but has not gained weight, so i think I'm going to have to sedate him Monday at the vets for an X-ray :(

The Backcurrant ones are much smaller apparently. You could also try leaving a dish of soaked pellets (leave to cool first) in their cage that might tempt them to eat by themselves. Poor Speckles, if you could get him to Simon Maddock at the Cat & Rabbit clinic for a morning appointment he might do a conscious x ray, as I am aware he can do those :)

Speckles is eating his veg and some hay so it's not like he isn't eating just not enough but yeah deffo will be easier to soak using them! Thanks! My vet has already done a conscious X-ray and
It was difficult to see what the mysterious lump
Was x

Well as long as Speckles doesn't have any underlying heart problems or a URI then a quick whiff of gas is usually very safe. If you can afford to stretch to it & your vet is a competent one he could also get blood taken to be sent off in case it shows anything else going on :)

Speckles still isn't pooing properly there kind of mushy :( he's eating and munching away on his hay but it's been nearly a week now and still no
Improvement on his poops. Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong? His guts are working as the vet said the other day his gut sounds where much better xx

I'd recommend another ver visit and they could send off a sample of his poo to be tested for bacteria.

What medicine is he currently on?

Gut stimulant medicine, antibiotics and pain relief, septrim is the antibiotic and the pain relief is called loxicom.. the gut stimulant begins win M it's a long word!

Going to take all 3 pigs in tomorrow as it's their week off being on meds, I think my vet wants to sedate speckles to find what's up :( I'm so worried about it though x

The gut stimulant is probably metocloprimide. I'd definately revisit the vet as, if his pops are soft and his guts have better sounds, then he shouldn't need a gut stimulant.. This can actually cause loose stool if it's not needed anymore as it can make things move to quickly. Ofcourse, you will need to discuss this with your vet.

If he's eating hay and veg and his weight is actually fairly stable, have you tried reducing his syringe feed? Sometimes if we over syringe feed them they are literally too full to eat properly on their own.. Even if they actually wanted to. Try him on less syringe feed and tempt him with lots of different hay and keep an eye on his weight and see how he does. Don't overdo the veg as this will make loose stools worse x

Just woken up and speckles has diarrhoea :( I can't get to the vets till after work about 5! What do I do :( :( :( he seems "normal" apart from that

I wouldn't give him any veg today and personally I wouldn't give him the metacloprimide if he has diarrohea as it will make it much worse, especially if he already has good gut function. Can you ring your vets to confirm this with them?

Syringe him water little and often to keep him hydrated.

Watch The apple juice Too, try and get him to eat as much hay as possible.

Is he on probiotics 1 hour after his antibiotics? He may have an upset tummy from them and probiotics would help alot

Speckles has died everyone, I am utterly heartbroken ;( ;( I came home after the vets this morning and the vet said he was doing much better and although had diaorreha he seemed much better and it could be caused by the meds, he also said he couldn't feel the lump anymore, and that it looked positive as he had put on weight.. and then I went back to work,
Come home and speckles callapsed in my arms ;( he died before I even got him to the vet ;(

Oh no I am so so sorry :( Big ((hugs)) for you, you did everything you could for him. Popcorn free little man at the Rainbow Bridge xx

Hell I new to the chat room, my pig just 1 of her eye removed I am very worried, any advice.
