last 12 hours or so Cocoa has been makin a noise and it's continous. she weight ok and acting eatin normal but she's makin a sort of gruntin grinding noise. I don't think it's her teeth but pls help. Very worried. it's loud and horrible

Deep breaths Dave. Please get her seen by a vet today. If she was ok last night then you’ve caught whatever it is early. Well done for spotting it. Please let us know how you Get on x

Couldn't agree more with what has been said above. It's been caught early and if she is still herself then don't panic too much yet David. A vet is the best option, which I know you will do as soon as they open for the morning. Let us know what they say. Sending healing vibes for Cocoa xx

We are here for you both David. She seeing the vet so you've got straight on top of it. Respiratory infections are quite common in guinea pigs and you've definitely caught whatever it is really quickly. Let us know how she gets on xx

Please don’t panic David. I’ve had several pigs with respiratory infections. Caught early they respond well to antibiotics. You are doing the very best for her. Big hugs x

Thanks all. She's back home with Heidi and Chloe we think it's best not to separate them as they really bat off each other. Lady Vet says it's a chest infection. Had the clean home lesson etc which I think is great as we all know is very important. She was weight and 1.200 so that great. no runny eye or any signs off illness just this horrible noise.
ok guys been give Baytril and she's on .38 twice a day and unless she worsens back vet next Monday. I'm less panic now but I'm takin day off "ill" you know what I mean.
Cocoa is asleep belly full and growling like a 9 inch lion. x

Bless her, fingers crossed it kicks in and she starts to feel better soon. It's always hard when you have lost a beloved piggy and then you deal with a first illness. I find it brings all the emotions rushing to the surface but you have done well. Get yourself a cuppa and a biscuit and try to relax a bit

You caught it early there mate, if she hasn't improved withing 48 hours pop her back, but hopefully the antibiotics will kick in and get her on the mend. First trip to the vets is always the worst. But you have been very on the ball so hopefully this uri will clear up in no time. Sending healing vibes x

Good that you have caught it early! Don't separate piggies if you can avoid it.

If her breathing is not quite easy, place a bowl of steaming water next to the cage, and keep that refreshed from time to time. It helps to ease the breathing, make her feel better in herself and keep up the appetite. You can add a drop or two of olbas oil (NOT vicks) if you really wish to, but just the added humidity will be totally fine, especially in this cold weather when the radiators are on full.

Also give her a pinch of probiotics either 1 hours before or 1-2 hours after the antibiotic to help bolster her guts. If you wish, you can also do a 2 week booster course of vitamin C to help strengthen the immune system.

As you have caught it early, there is every reason for a good and quick recovery. ;)

@Tim also.

Just hang in there. It usually takes a day or two for the meds to kick in fully. But as the appetite is not affected, it means that the breathing is actually not too badly affected. Guinea pig airways are comparatively small and narrow. Guinea pigs can also not breathe through their mouths, so any respiratory problems are always very audible compared to us humans.

Wiebke again you are a love and a star. you calmed me down. it's very disturbing as she's growlin and carrying on like completely normal which is greatci know. I'm pretty sure toilets habbit is normal but there piggies swop places all the time. bless

You’ve done a great job @David Pet Lover sorry I’ve had to work today. I’ll take up night watch tonight. Healing vibes to Cocoa today x :wub: she’s a little star x

You are an amazing piggy dad and Cocoa is lucky to have you. Sounds like you have definitely caught it fast and its obvious she's still quite comfortable if she is being her normal self. Sending lots of healing vibes I hope it's cleared up quickly :)
