Help with illness?

Aw poor guy :( We had a lad named Bugzy who had a spinal cord injury, and picking him up caused some pain! We used to shimmy him into a cosy to pick him up (cuddle cups are good because you wouldn't need to pull him back out to syringe feed!) or if you patched the floor with small fleeces, you cod just lift whichever he's sitting on? Poor lad, all the best for him and you

This is him after 2 syringes of water, 3 of critical care and the 0.4 metacam
Adequate pain relief is so important!. Please see my post above as l edited it after you read it! Thanks. Just recommending another vet if you need it

That's a really good idea! I did make a fleece for him a few weeks ago but I never gave them it as it ended up having tons of fluff in it for some reason, but as he's not moving much it should be okay. I'll give that a try :)
Thank you

Would some glucosamine help atall? I dont know exactly what it does but i used it on my arthiritis pig. I think if you manage to get more critical care into him he will have the strength to heal. You could try some picked grass , normally pigs see it as a treat

Try sitting him on your lap, facing away from you. Hold the top of his head with your fingers and one thumb on the side of his head. Use some force but not too much. Then poke the syringe in the side of the mouth until he starts biting it and do a little at a time feed. This is how i manage it
Hey i properly know what you meant now when you said you couldnt get much syringe feed in him because of his spine. I didnt read properly before. I tend to skim read things. I think you know alot more than me about pigs, sorry if it came across like i was being patronising

I'm not sure?
He's eating a lot of the critical care at the moment. Not willingly but I've figured out a way to get him to eat it as gently as I can. :)

That's okay! I didn't see it patronising in the slightest, just one piggie lover trying to help out another :)

Wishing you the very best luck for your little man, hope he pulls through this x

I went to bed at 1am last night as I was worried about leaving him so long while I slept. Left him with a slice of cucumber cut into four pieces, 2 tiny lettuce leaves (it was the last bit left) and a piece of celery and some green hay and some dandelion foilage.

Woke up at 9am to find all the veg except a tiny piece of cucumber gone and the foilage and some of the hay gone.
I then made him his critical care and he dug into that and had his 0.4ml of metacam. He willingly ate it all then turned away once he felt done.

I’m very happy to see he’s eating somewhat. I’ve left him a sprig of celery leaf and I’m going to check in an hour if he’s eaten that and make him some more critical care.
He’s a tiniest bit more active today as yesterday he’d just sit in one spot and not move but today he’s moved about a foot so I’m happy for the small improvement

Fingers crossed his appetite continues!

Oh, that’s good news, let’s hope he continues to eat and gets his appetite back x

That sounds very encouraging.
Keep an eye on his heels as immobility can make their heels sore. I use gorgeous guineas foot ointment in these circumstances.
So hope he continues to improve

Oh I hadn’t even thought of that! I’ll keep an eye on them thank you

Yeah I’m very proud of him. I kept encouraging and praising him for every bite. I’m sure he has no idea what I’m going on about :))

Sadly Mumen is having a lot of struggles.
He seems to have limited movement on his hind legs. He almost sits like a human and I'm not sure he realises where his legs are.

He's extremely eager to eat and will clean himself with his front paws, but I fear he might be disabled on his lower body. He just doesn't seem to know how to get them to move.
