New Born Pup
Hi
My guinea pig Honey was put to sleep on Monday 25th May 2026. I want to share this so I can help someone else and perhaps seek some closure
I noticed she started losing weight this year but she was still eating so I took her to the vet. They said they would have to do scans. They did an ultrasound and found she had ovarian cysts. I booked her on for a spay this month and fed her critical care to bulk her up
She had her spay and she recovered well. She was eating and she was fine. She was still losing weight so I continued the critical care. I took her to the vet because she wasn’t eating and they gave her a stimulant for her stomach and pain relief. This worked and she started eating again
Fast forward a week. I took her outside and noticed she had diarrhoea and I looked at her stitches and saw it was infected with pus coming out. I took her to the out of hours vet. The vet gave me antibiotics and pain relief. She wasn’t eating and I was still giving her critical care. I took her again to the vet so she could get something to stimulate her stomach so she could build her strength up. They gave her fluid and stomach stimulant
The next day she was limp and she had started having seizures. I took her to the vets and they gave her fluids and pain relief. I was watching her deteriorate so I took her to the vets again. They said they could not do anything and it was time. So they put her to sleep
This was horrendous even though I know this was the right thing to do but it does not help. We have buried her in the garden where she used to eat. I have 3 others but I am really struggling with her death
I got her from pets at home. I know this isn’t the best place to get pets from now. Bo one wanted her because of her pink eyes but I loved her regardless
