For those who haven't read my thread, Hope was taken on by me just short of 2 weeks ago. A pregnant female advertised on a facebook pet page... and a lady who is known for taking free pets and selling them on was interested in her.
I all but demanded I take Hope on, as I couldn't bear to see a heavily pregnant girl passed from pillar to post and she came to live here.

Earlier this morning when I got up, I realised she was having contractions. A while later, contractions still going and no babies, I rang the vet as soon as it opened at 8:30. She was there by 8:45 and the vet said an emergency c-section had to be done as her pelvis wasn't for moving. Upon examining her, one little baby still in its sac, was hanging out by the legs and totally stuck.
Vet informed me then that this baby was likely dead already given the position and how long contractions been happening :(

So I left Hope there, and got a call a while later to say c-section wasn't needed thankfully. They gave her methadone and she managed to push the babies out! First one was the tiny one, dead on arrival :( She then gave birth to a larger one that was alive! And after xray, no more babies were seen in mum.

Although I am so relieved for her to have a lively healthy baby, there is of course the element of sadness at the stillborn. Vet said, it looks like it had been long gone - so probably died in the womb. Could this be because of the handling and moving a few weeks back? We'll never know.
So this tribute is to the little baby that I've had suggestion of calling Love, (Hope, Love and her sibling Faith). Only had the mum 12 days, and absolutely devastated for the loss of her infant.

Hi, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss :( what a lovely thing you have done to take on a pregnant piggy. I love the names you have given them....popcorn free little Love x

I am sorry! I strongly doubt that it is due to your actions or care; feelings of guilt and soul searching a normal signs of grieving - all they are saying is that you a loving and very caring mummy who has given Hope and her pups the best chance in the short time they've had with you!

In this age of developed human pregnancy care, most people are not aware that there is sadly still quite a number of human pregnancies that go wrong at the last moment for no apparent reason. It is the same with guinea pigs. Deadborn babies are sadly a not at all rare fact of piggy pregnancy, even with the best of care. It is the dark side of the cute little fluff balls that we all adore.

RIP little Love - even if you didn't live long enough to take your first breath, you were still loved and won't be forgotten

I am so sorry for your loss.

I would just like to add that I am pleased Hope and Faith have such a loving home with you.

Sleep well little one
RIP Love
x x

Just found out her sibling died during birth too :( I picked vet up wrong when she spoke to me earlier

Oh no :( I'm so sorry to hear this hun :( i read most of your other thread and this may be due to mummy pig being young and under weight when you got her).
Popcorn free faith with little love x

HUGS! I am ever so sorry that the little miracle hasn't come off! RIP Faith x

Oh that is so sad :( Rest in peace little ones xx

It really is a sad day for her. Just last night I was laying back with her in her little bed on me, and as always just talking gently to her and stroking her. She is so good and trusting with people. I felt the big baby moving around and just being active. Feels so sad for her :( The vet said she made a point of letting her look at them and check them so she knew psychologically that they were gone, rather than just send her home without that part of the process and confusing her. Such a lovely vet she went to today.

Oh thats so sad, how emotionally draining for you. I'm so sorry. Hope will be able to heal and become a happy pig with you X

Oh I'm so sorry to hear this. Thank goodness your girl has a loving owner to help her recover from this sad time in her little life x

Oh no! Poor little mites. At least you tried to give them a chance at life. Hoping Mum continues to get stronger every day.
I hope she won't mourn for her babies for too long.

So to add to the pain, Hope had to be put to sleep this afternoon :( She ended up quite ill and lost a lot of weight, and today stopped eating and drinking, it so it was decided that keeping her alive was prolonging her suffering. Such a sad ending to a sad sad story :(

So so sorry Run free little one... xx

Oh no thats so sad. :(
RIP Hope. I'm sure you will be happy to be reunited with your two beautiful babies.

LB14, you did so great with her and though this is a sad ending to the story, think of how much worse it could possibly have been for both her and the babies if you hadn't have been the one to rescue her.

Much love. *hugs*

Thank you, that is so true sadly. I have another thread about her pregnancy and her story has been told over there. I'm grateful the vet who saw her today was the one who delivered her babies last week and knew how much she had suffered already. She gave me the choice of blood tests and trying to bring her round, or to be kind and have her PTS. Really it was a no brainer to be sad but true. She really WAS suffering and today I knew in my heart I had to let her go to be a kind person.
I firmly believe in spirits of all species, and take comfort in the thought of her with her babies, as this last week without them for her was too much to bear. I think her broken heart had a massive part to play :( x

Oh how absolutely tragic. I believe she has gone to look after her babies now. What an awful experience for you x

So sad, night night Hope, reunited with your little ones.

I'm so sorry.
