Junior Guinea Pig
For those who haven't read my thread, Hope was taken on by me just short of 2 weeks ago. A pregnant female advertised on a facebook pet page... and a lady who is known for taking free pets and selling them on was interested in her.
I all but demanded I take Hope on, as I couldn't bear to see a heavily pregnant girl passed from pillar to post and she came to live here.
Earlier this morning when I got up, I realised she was having contractions. A while later, contractions still going and no babies, I rang the vet as soon as it opened at 8:30. She was there by 8:45 and the vet said an emergency c-section had to be done as her pelvis wasn't for moving. Upon examining her, one little baby still in its sac, was hanging out by the legs and totally stuck.
Vet informed me then that this baby was likely dead already given the position and how long contractions been happening
So I left Hope there, and got a call a while later to say c-section wasn't needed thankfully. They gave her methadone and she managed to push the babies out! First one was the tiny one, dead on arrival
She then gave birth to a larger one that was alive! And after xray, no more babies were seen in mum.
Although I am so relieved for her to have a lively healthy baby, there is of course the element of sadness at the stillborn. Vet said, it looks like it had been long gone - so probably died in the womb. Could this be because of the handling and moving a few weeks back? We'll never know.
So this tribute is to the little baby that I've had suggestion of calling Love, (Hope, Love and her sibling Faith). Only had the mum 12 days, and absolutely devastated for the loss of her infant.
