Teenage Guinea Pig
Hi everyone, as you will all know I have 3 guinea pigs. Pebbles, Pringles and Porche. I got Pebbles and Pringles together in November 2010, and Porche a few months later from my auntie. I thought I would share the story of how I came to get her to you.
So, my auntie was on holiday and left her children (my cousins) in charge of the guinea pigs. My auntie didn't care about them. One day, my cousin called us asking if we wanted a guinea pig.. We had no idea of her background, nor were we aware that she desperately needed a home, so we declined. I thought about it for a few days and then managed to convince my mum to phone my cousin back and enquire about this guinea pig she had.
To cut a long story short, my cousin explained that Porche's sister had died and was left in the cage with her for A WEEK before anyone bothered to remove her. She was never cleaned out, was fed scraps of muesli if she was lucky, and never had hay and water. Apparently was mostly fed off pineapple and other fruit scraps. My cousin said she is lucky to be alive because 'nobody looks after her'
We were disgusted by this so immediately accepted the offer to bring her home. She has been here around 3 years now, and I have honestly never met such a laid back, loving, soft little piggie. She doesn't have a bad bone in her little body, she lets you do anything with her.. Soo cuddly, never runs away, never bitten and doesn't scratch, and will happily sit with you for hours. I don't understand how anyone could neglect her, she is absolutely no trouble at all.. a happy little nature, wheeks at the slightest little things and loves being out in the fresh air and grass more than anything - something she never got to do before coming here. She is also very beautiful!
Every time I think of how she was treated I get so upset. My auntie and cousins were so cruel to her, and they don't even feel bad about it. They have been my house numerous times and never ask to see her.. And never ask about her. I got one comment from my cousin, once again stating that nobody cared for her and she can't believe she is still alive. I have tried to make a trio with my other 2 numerous times, but a fight always breaks out between Porche and Pebbles. I know this is unusual for females, but Porche just doesn't want company. It's understandable I suppose, but she has me
Here is the little girl herself.. As long as she lives here she will always be clean, well fed, watered, have lots of toys and all of the love I can give. I am so happy I got to change her life around! I just hope she doesn't remember her past. When she first came to us she was quite mal-nourished, nervous, her coat was awful and her nails were overgrown.. I have nurtured her into a lovely, shiny coated, tame and conifdent piggie
