Hi everyone 👋
I'm interested to know where your piggies got their names and if there's any funny stories behind them. I had no names planned in advance so I could see what they looked like and what suited them. I have 2 boars Eddie and Elvis and here's how they got their names:

Elvis got his name from his crest or as I like to call it his quiff 🤣

Eddie got his name because my mum said since he's ginger let's call him Ed Sheeran. I said no that's silly! but then I thought hang on... Eddie's a cute name so Eddie it was

sweet potato (spud) was named by me I think the name explains itself he is sweet and a potato.

Gundham was named by my OH after a character from an obscure anime video game that he was obsessed with when we got them. The character is obsessed with hamsters and according to my OH he looks like our piggie.

Well my Jess is ‘officially’ called Jessie, she was named after her original foster carer Lessie (used to be on here🤔) before she came to my house at 7 weeks. I’ve called her Jess for years as I think it suits her more!

My porky Luigi was named it at the rescue I adopted him from, my nephew is an absolute Mario nut so I couldn’t change it after he was so excited I had a Luigi moving in! Suits him though, although I call him (and he answers to) Gigi!

And my newest addition Aliona was originally called Lightning, I really didn’t think it suited her, far too pretty and it was a bit boyish for my liking!
So after watching a brilliant programme on rehabilitating Eurasian Lynx in Russia and I heard the name, (it’s a Russian girl’s name that means ‘light’) it was perfect for her! Although she answers to Lolo these days! :))

I see the resemblance of Gundham and spud really lives up to his name he's so sweet! 😍

Jess's face in that picture 🤣 I think I might have watched that programme on lynx too did it have Gordan Buchanan in it or am I thinking about something else?

My Rainbow Piggy Velvet was called Velvet cos that's what she felt like (according to my youngest son who was 13 at the time).

The Ever Beautiful Betsy is call Betsy cos she's just beautiful (and the name suits her).Betsy Chookin 2.JPG

Christian is called Christian cos he's several shades of grey (!)

Christian Cuddle time.JPG

Dennis is called Dennis as the name suits him.

Meg is called Meg cos she is lovely and fluffy and looks like a Meg.

Yes that’s the one! It was the female that had been trapped in a tiny cage with a male and had babies, turned totally wild after giving birth and was an amazing mum, was her name! Just before I rehomed Aliona and it really stuck! Great programme!

Our boys are called Dougal and Diego.

Dougal because we thought he looked a bit like Dougal from the magic roundabout (the smooth haired guinea pig with the white patch on his head).

And we wanted the pigs to both have names that started with the same letter so we thought Diego suited our boy with the crazy hair. He’s the boss so think it suits him too 🤣

I have Bobby and Geoff - Bobby is the white boy named after Bobby Moore (fantastic footballer ) and cos he’s always boobing about and popcorning.
Geoff is named after Geoff hurst ( another fantastic footballer) cos he would suddenly run take the ball and score and Geoff does that with food or rather when Bobby’s eating it. He runs from his hidey and runs off with food to eat it.
They are such little characters ! I love seeing and hearing how everyone has named their piggles 😊

I love Danganronpa!

Oreo and Domino came to us as Billy and Bo ... Oreo looks like an Oreo and Domino is black and white like a domino. He answers to Panda-Pig most of the time though.

Cookie came to us as Randy ... called him Cookie to go with Oreo. He answers to Cookles.

Nugget came to us as Pete ... took a while to settle between Biscuit or Nugget but Nugget it is. He answers to Nug-Bug (and we get 'Nug-Bug-Hugs')

Bourbon came to us as Boris ... we already have a hamster called Boris so my son decided on Bourbon to go with the biscuit theme. He answers to BB-Bubba.

Little Ted didn't have a name ... he has teddy bear fur (or alpaca, his fur is growing and changing) and hubby instantly called him Ted.

Poor neglected Bill came to us as Ruby because of his eyes ... he bonded with Ted so I couldn't call him anything other than Bill.

Phew ... I think that's all 7!

We originally had Bill and Ted from the film Bill and Ted‘s Excellent Adventure, sadly we lost Bill just before his fifth birthday. We got Ted Neutered and found two ladies from a local rescue, they were called Sunny and Sandy. When we were looking at the piggies there my OH said come over here and look at this Posh one! I was too busy taken with two gorgeous chatty boars, but was pulled away to look at the Posh one, who had a little Ginger Red eyed friend! Hence Ginger and Posh, the spice girls! 😆

Peanut because he's brown and peanut shaped. This was a temporary name while we got to know him but it stuck!

Rusty is an unusual agouti colouring with light and dark brown/red/peachy colours like very old rusty metal.

Red is a smooth red coloured guinea.

Brillo is a very wiry Teddy.

Caspian (Caspy) has a white mark on his face in the shape of a C so had to have a name beginning with C. OH and I are both Narnia fans.

Nugget because I found him when I went out to buy nugget's, it also suited him because he's a silver coloured piggie.

Eevee is named after Eevee from pokemon when I hatched an eevee out of a 10k egg while playing Pokémon go the time I saw her.

Joey and Yugi are named after characters from an anime called Yugioh :) Joey because he is a blonde piggie and the character is blonde. Yugi because she was so tiny and I couldn’t think of any brown haired anime characters from Ygo. Yugi has such wild hair that wouldn’t match a piggie so I decided to go with that name.

Sierra - after Sierra Nevada
Rocky - after Red Rock Canyon National Park, Nevada
Vegas - obviously after Las Vegas, Nevada

Hubby and I love going to Las Vegas and the surrounding regions so we decided to name the piggies based on the places we love. I already have future names for future piggies too. 😂😂

My first guinea pig was named GuinGuin. I had wanted a Guinea pig for a long time and wanted to call it Cabayo-Cabayo (guinea pig-guinea pig in Spanish, lol). Anyway, the name didn’t quite fit and I couldn’t call him Guinea pig-guinea pig, so we just called him GuinGuin.

My second guinea pig is called Little. His long name is ‘Little One for Now’. I couldn’t think what to call him, so we were just calling him Little One. Little One for Now stuck because of its dual meaning. First being the name was only for now as I planned on changing it, and second being that he was only going to be little for now as he’d grow bigger. Gradually he just became Little.

My third guinea pig was called Honey. I had wanted to call him either Bee, because he looked like a bumble bee, or Bear, because he was a fuzzy teddy bear of a guinea pig. My mum thought he should be called Honey. The situation at the time was that GuinGuin had died, and my mum had looked in the pet store everyday for two weeks and Little was there every time. She decided if he was still there, she’d get him for me and so she did. My mum never intended on Little getting a friend, but after talking properly about it with her she allowed me to and I picked up Honey about a week after having Little. I let my mum chose the name as, since she never wanted us to have him to start with, it was sort of my way of hoping she would accept him as she named him.

My fourth pig is Peanut. That was the name he had when we adopted him. I tried to think of many different names, he almost became Cello but it didn’t fit. I didn’t like Peanut because of the harsh sounds in it (P, N, T). I tend to adapt my piggy names so they’re said without much effort - Little become Leeda, or Yida. Honey became Hoo. So I didn’t like Peanut because it wasn’t adaptable. We did keep it though after the rescue said they thought he was four as it then felt wrong to change it. Since then his nickname has become Penoo as it’s said much easier, lol.

When we saw Alisa in the rescue I knew we had to adopt her and her baby because Alisa is the name I always use when I play games as it's an anagram of the letters of our names Aaron, Luke, Ian, Samantha, Ava so it seemed like fate.image.webp
Aria was named after my daughters favourite character in a game she plays.image.webp
My daughter wanted to name one of the girls after herself but I said no so we settled on Avaleigh as a compromise as that is what I wanted to name her when she was born but my partner didn't like it so she ended up being Ava Rose.image.webp
We decided to stick we A names so we chose Ariel as we love the little mermaid.

Last but not least Avery just because I love the name 😊image.webp

My boar Squeaks got the name because he was a very LOUD 6 week old baby when we adopted him. What he lacked in size he made up for in volume! In rescue he had been Jackson because he is all black except for one white paw.
The method I used for naming my two sows is possibly not recommended for many people. I wanted to start a theme of names eg from Tolkien novels, but couldn't find 2 ladies' names I liked. In the end I named them after my late mother and mother in law. So Winifred and Rosemary they are! Not sure what my m-i-l would say if she'd known!

People always think he is named for Lord of the Rings but the RSPCA named Merry Merry because he was available for adoption at Chriatmas. View attachment 145786
When I was looking for places to adopt guinea pigs I looked at the RSPCA and I remember seeing Merry! It's so cool how he looks like a different pig from one side compared to the other. It's a small world isn't it 😮

Yes you are so right he does! It's like a face changing superpower! I will tell him he is famous I think he will be quite proud to have been remembered!
