Greetings! I am new to this forum so please forgive me for any mistakes with my posts:) I have three male guinea pigs; Fred, Junior, and Nubs(he is missing a foot hence the name). Recently, Nubs has been getting himself into some fights with my other boys, resulting in bloody wounds. I took my boys to the vet ASAP. In the time being, I placed the top of a wired cage I used when Fred and Junior were babies to block Nubs off from the others. Nubs is still technically in the same cage as my other pigs and is able to communicate with them, but cannot be harmed. However, Nubs does not seem happy with his new situation. I understand that the space he has at the moment is too small (I have supplies for a new cage being delivered as we speak) but, I am wondering what else I can do to help him not feel as lonely? As much as it breaks my heart to see him alone I do not believe that he is able to get along with my other guinea pigs at this moment and getting a fourth to be his roomie seems a bit risky:( My main question is do you guys think the bigger cage will help feel happier? Are there any other ideas or ways that I could help him?
Please let me know I appreciate any advice!

Welcome to the forum

You've done the right thing in separating them. Three boars together doesnt often work and fights, broken bonds and separated piggies are the result. Boars do much better in pairs.

Provided he can have interaction through the bars, then he won't be lonely as such. Living as neighbours is a viable long term solution for piggies who dont get on. However, if he is really struggling living by himself, then he would like to have his own new friend to live with. If you can enlist the help of a rescue centre to find a new character compatible friend for him that that will be the best long term solution if he isnt able to cope living as a neighbour.
