I thought this naming thing would be quick, but I can't find anything that sticks. How long did it take you to name yours? What were their names and what are they now? :)

I had names before I even got mine - I had just watched the LOTR trilogy when I decided to get them and felt that that the hobbits weren't disimilar to guinea pigs so I felt hobbit names would be quite fitting! I originally planned to get girls and so was going to name them Merry and Pippin but I fell in love with a pair of boars so took them and named them Sam and Frodo instead. It's incredible how fitting their names are for them - they both reflect their namesakes surprisingly well! :)

i named the first two of mine really quickly but wish id waited. Pebbles and fizz were scruff and fluff when i first got them then changed to pebbles and fizz. A couple of mine have nicknames as well as their proper names. Pixie has been red and wiggy as coronet cross with beatles hair do. Pepsi is splodge now and then (she is sheltie) paris is trouble as she escaped twice through c&c grid and tries to climb on the fleece pegged over the cage so had to move ramp going into litter tray.In one cage have sugar and spice and salt and peppa and the other six are pebbles, poppyrose, pia, paris, pixie and pepsi.

My first two took a while to name but after a few days i got some that reminded me of them...

I named one Skittles because she's skittish but not so bad now, and her friend was called Buttercup because she was so cute and her personality was bright and happy like a Buttercup! :tu:

Then i got four surprise babies and we named them pretty quickly... so we could tell which one was which when weighing them and their names just stayed the same!

There was a all ginger one.. so his name is ginger!

One with big patches of colour so her name was patch...

Stripey got her name from the white stripe down her nose but she grew lots of long blonde hair so we nickname her Goldilocks the guinea pig.

And baby was one of smallest and the most baby like.

My names weren't to inventive!

But Merry and Pippin are boys in LOTR...?

Also my two got their names straight away Hermes just seemed right and Blonde got called Blondie pig whilst I was trying to think of a name and it stuck!

My first two we names straight away, my next two took us a week to name, and my last two we had names ready as we had to wait for them to be old enough to bring home

@GloriousGuineaGirl What made you skip out Allan and go straight for Poe? :)
Because a gp called Allan does not really go I dont think haha and at least people in the know will know Edgar Poe....Edgar & Allan does not really sound that great in my ears hahaha. To be honest when I do get a third he will be called Hannibal :)

I know but I there aren't any female hobbits to name after and I felt Merry and Pippin would suit girls better than Sam and Frodo would!

I see what you mean but there are female hobbits - Rosie and Eleanor are the first two that come to mind. :)

Named them after we chose them but before we collected them. Monty and Waylon (Simpsons references) <3

Maple and Pecan were pretty easy as I saw the name on a box of cereal and decided straight away. We struggled with the other three... OH named Rambo mainly because she's absolutely mental... Patch my OH's mum named and Lucky we both agreed on because she was the one we couldn't leave behind! About three days with the trio

One of my boars was already named before I homed him, and it just stuck (Boris) and I had a shortlist I liked for my other boar but found one in particular very fitting, named him the same day he came home (Badger) :)

They're the names I gave them the day I got them.

The hardest one was Romano as I was naming them all after a certain series and barely any of the characters had dark hair.

It took me almost a month to name pepsie and krull. AT the beginning, we called them Sam and Frodo from lord of the rings but that didn't suit either of them. We then were going to call them simon and Garfunkel but that didn't feel right either. We also called the Bruno and ozzy after the singers and then we started calling them pepsie and sprite. Pepsie stuck but I was watching the movie how to lose a guy in 10 days and the Chinese crested named krull made me change sprite

well a few weeks before getting Cookie & Cream me and my boyfriend were thinking of names we had Toffee and Popcorn in mind or Cookie and Cream...
Then after we got them we were on the bus stop ready to take them home and my boyfriend opened the carrier they were in to see them and pointed to each one Cookie, Cream!
So yeah they were named pretty quick!

Well where do I start? :))
Humbug just suited this little Beauty :luv:

I rescued all of mine..first were Tobi and Koda, they both had mange and seriously not responsible owners.. Sadly Koda passed from this but tobi thrived and remained Tobi. Then was G-Force whom was also neglected, by a neighbor, he is still G-Force but we call him reet- reet cause of the sounds he makes. And lastly Guinness and Shandy.. Whom were named after beers because their owners were beer distributors. We kept those names too. They all knew their names so we didn't change them.

With our first ones, we named them on the way home when we were picking them up. By the time we were home, they had names. With the babies, we didn't want to name them because we wanted to give them away, but one had a white spot on its head, so we nicknamed her Spotty and the other one was fluffy and white, se we began to refer to her as Cotton and the last one was just you which we kept. When we decided to keep the young ones as well, we kept the nicknames as their names. You became Mr. You eventually after I'd once told my bf: "We should have You castrated."

I named them on their way home but they are pretty much called Mr. Pig and Piggywigwigs. No wonder they get confused lol

Awwww, these name stories are so cool. It's been a week now, and these guys still don't have names...Their personalities are emerging though...They're about 3 months now, and...

Ginger and White:

-Dominant boar, bigger in size from day 1
-Skittish but still friendly if you give him a sec to realise all's good between you and him
-Clownish, bit of a show-off
-Climber
-Cheeky
-Greedy
-Not ready to be petted for and length of time yet, runs away, but I'm still pleased with how far he's come in the week Ive had him, and it won't be long before he's tame with me.
-Loves to climb into your hair as son as he's out and on your lap

Tortie and White

-Very gentle
-Docile, spends a lot of his day hanging out in the hammock cosy
-Curious
-More Trusting
-Can head mount the ginger without causing squabbles, but curiously still has to wait to eat if there's only one pile left. Ginger one always asserts authority in this scenario.
-Is ok about petting, so long as you don't rush him.
-Licks you
-Wheeks when I approach the cage

The ginger and white is settling as Figaro, The Barber of Seville, because he's witty, clever and good-hearted, a tad bit greedy in a fun way, and loves his job as a barber and matchmaker. Later, in The Marriage of Figaro, he's not so bouncy and outgoing, but he's still a good-natured schemer, determined to get the better of Count Almaviva, who despite being married to Rosina, a match that Figaro helped him with in Barber, wants to steal away Figaro's feisty fiance, Susanna.

The black one has no name yet, I can't find an opera name sweet enough for him.

I try to name all of mine before they arrive (unless they already come with a name); usually I let the rescue choose from a short list of suitable Welsh names, but on occasion, I have changed a name that turned out to be just not right for the piggy after it had settled in.

Don't worry, you will find a name as you get to know your piggies and their personalities better! If in doubt, you can always give them a name that descibes their looks rather than their personality and then take it from there. If the name is not right, they will acquire a nickname in due time!

Three year old Daisy became Dizzy Daisy and then Dizzy within a week of her arrival because demure little lawn flower she was NOT! My Taffy's last rescue born daughter Tegan (the white aby in my avatar) was renamed Telyn ("harp") after a few weeks because she had a very loud voice, simply couldn't shut up and her big wheek made my ears ring. My current Tegan Syndod is named in memory of her since she was born only a few months after Telyn's unexpected passing, but this time the name ("beautiful + surprise") has worked out; she is a stunning little diva and knows it! Ffowlyn ("chicken" for the way she looked from behind when her hair started growing out) was originally Briallen (primrose), but her nickname was the one that stuck about a month into the bargain! ;)

Weirdly enough most of my pig names have been thought up by my sisters.
Spike was originally my eldest sisters pig, named Spike because of his spikey hair.
Pumpkin (my avatar) was named that because she was big and round and had pumpkin coloured patches on her, this name was suggested by my second eldest sister. Her sister was called Munchkin because it sort of rhymed with Pumpkin and she was very small.
Sookie was called Lily when I got her but Lily just didn't suit her. While trying to come up with a name that did suite her I was watching the show Gilmore Girls and there's a character called Sookie and it just seemed to fit. Sookies daughter Sherbet was born while my eldest sister was fostering them and was named Sherbet because she fizzed and popped around like sherbet and it fits her perfectly so I kept it.
Rio was named Millie by the rescue I got her from and straight away I decided to change it. Rio was a name I thought was nice but didn't want to get too attached to the name in case the pig didn't suit it. In the car journey home from the rescue I went through every name imaginable trying to think of one that started with S so she would fit with Sookie and Sherbet. But the only name I kept coming back to was Rio, so it stuck.

I thought this naming thing would be quick, but I can't find anything that sticks. How long did it take you to name yours? What were their names and what are they now? :)
hello, I'm new to this forum but saw your question, my two first piggies were already named mavis and scruffy but when we got another two babies it was tinka and belle, mavis and scruffy have since passed away so we got another called abby who has a friar tuck hairdo going on ,haha, I'm just undergoing the introduction stage at the minute theres so much dominance being shown by the other two, but itll take time. :)

I already knew that I wanted one called gus. Mostly because I'm a big kid and I love Cinderella! Gus totally fitted because he's chubby and brown (mostly).
I made the mistake of letting the OH name the other. We'd just finished watching Breaking Bad so he jumped right in with Walter White. I'd said he could pick so I couldn't take it away from him. He does suit it...I still feel strange shouting Walter though.
