Hopefully, next weekend a new boy is going to move in with my girls.

Now as the big four level cage of mine is still being in repair, and I didnt want to delay taking the new piggy in, I was thinking of just expanding my temporary CC-Cage that I did for the girls.

for them its currently 2 by 3, as I didnt have enough tablecloth left for the floor to make it any bigger ;) However today we want to buy a bigger piece, a few meters maybe, question is how big does it have to be?

I know minimum space for guinea pigs is 0.5 square meters each, but how much is that in grids?
would a 5 by 2 be enough for three piggies? (i think i read somewhere that a 4 by 3 would be enough, which is the same as 5 by 2 isnt it?) They are going to have houses with ramps so they can go on top of them, so they will have a bit more space than just the floor space.

Right now it looks like this:

How many more grids to add? (And yes I know, the more the better, but as its temporarily I dont want to buy enough waxed tablecloth to fill the whole floor of the kitchen ;) )

Not sure on the grids thing I only have my shed C&C which could only be one size. Why aren't you using your lovely home made set anymore?b (sorry if i've missed something)

We want to do some changes. The wood bits on the side are just not high enough to prevent bedding being kicked out, so we want to put higher ones on there. Also my boyfriend cracked one of our perspex fronts, and they were a bit meh anyway, so we want to try and cut some again...

eventually, we are thinking of replacing the mesh back with a wooden back because the piggies always kicked hay out which we couldnt hoover away because it was behind the whole cage on the floor - not an easy space to reach.

right now, the weather is nasty outside though and we just dont like to spend much time outside in the garage doing DIY when its so much nicer inside :P

so until we either get the courage to brace the cold, or until the weather gets better, we thought a CC cage would be the best thing to do - I dont want my piggies locked up in a normal 120 petshop cage just because I am too lazy to get on with the work for the big cage! ;P

I am sure there are alot of people with CC Cages around, come out of the woodwork please and help me! :P

I have a CC though without the coroplast at the minute. It was a 2x4 but my boys have too many hormones so now its a 3x4 split down the middle for the two of them. Without the split I reckon it would easily house 3 piggies with loads of space for them to run. If they aren't going to be in it for long you could probably get away with a 2x4 or 3x3.

My concern is what are you going to have on your table for Xmas dinner with that lovely tablecloth in the cage (or are you going to give it a shake & use it!).

That looks a lovely home - I hate cages with just a bowl & a bottle.

Can't be much help re the c&c - I've got a pen on the end of a tiered hutch. The pen is 8ft x 3ft & has just 3 guineas in - I'm still awaiting that elusive pregnant guinea needing a home so hopefully will have some more in there sometime in the future.

We bought 2m tablecloth today, and it perfectly fits the 2by5 cage:

all set up for next week :)

Hopefully will get some more cuddlecups and sleepsacks soon (waiting for some christmas prezzies :P) and make the whole thing more comfy for them.

It would be quite sad if we just had checkered plastic tablecloth on our table for our christmas dinner! :P

It looked a good quality cloth one! Perhaps I should put my specs on!

Does the table cloth idea work well? Is it fabric or plastic? I assume it's plastic though because otherwise icky things would leak through it ;D Where did you get it from & how much was it?

Yes its plastic, works quite well, obviously its not as neat as real coroplast but it works fine for me, my piggies dont chew on it or anything so its doing its job :) good as a temporary solution.

its from Boyes, 3.50 pound the meter, got 2 meter for the 5x2 cage and its more than enough.

how much is coroplast? I imagine for that size I would have paid more than 7 pound...

I still put newspaper underneath the bedding, for insulation and for soaking up urine. but if I was using it without newspaper, I could just pick the whole thing up and shake it out over the garden waste bin, so that could be quite handy. Mind you its a bit annoying trying to fold the darn thing up to go neatly into the corners of the cage, so I usually just scoop all the bedding into a carrier bag and carry bag for bag out to the bin ;)

they did have a green one with sunflowers on aswell, but I thought it might be a bit too bright for them :P

I would have liked the colors though. :)

Well they can see colour so fancy decor they will love! You should send your pics to the cavy cages gallery or get in touch with guineapig fun and put it on their theme cages bit!

Yeah they ahve a oage for variations as they help people who cant get coroplast. E.g. there is one with a bunk bed, loads with lino etc. :)

That looks fantastic !

Mind you if my girls were in there it wouldnt stay like that for very long mine like to thrown everything everywhere !
