How many piggies do you have?

Just a question (: Oh, and how many do you think someones limit should be?

I have five. I do not think you can set a limit. It depends if you can afford to care for them and have the space and time. I have a feeling I know why you are asking. ;)
 
I have 3 piggies.

It's difficult to give someone a limit as it will depend on their circumstances, finances, accommodation, living arrangements (ie pairs, groups, singles etc), space, time etc.

I'd love to have more, but space and time dictate otherwise and I wouldn't want to sacrifice the time I spend with my current 3 boys.

Hehe! (: Good answer(: If they're not, I think I'll be getting them another little companion in a couple months - The past weeks have been such a joy with my little boogers ;) I have tons of free time, so that wouldn't matter, and I love them so much! Financially, we'll be good..besides, one piggy won't make much of a difference financially unless its a little more, the way I think I wanna go with it. I wanted to try a boy this time, and either get him neutered or another cage. Not too sure yet...should I get him a companion in the same cage if I don't decide to neuter him? (I think I may do that, because I know how risky THOSE operations can be!) Room wise, next month we're having a garage sale, and clearing out a whole room! So, hello more piggy space! (: If I would get one sooner, I do have enough room in my room still, just not as much as I would like :P But, it's not too little, either! Plus, I have a dresser to get rid of! (: Do you think it'd be good idea, if the girlies are not having little "piglets"? Lol :P

Geez louise! (: Lol, you must love your piggies very much! ♥ They're happy to have a dedicated owner, like you, I bet. (I'm not saying if you have more or less you're more or not as dedicated, that just popped into my mind of something to say :P )
 
If you get a boy he could not be in the same room as the girls as their scent would drive him wild! It is risky to neuter. It is such a shame you do not have rescues by you were you could adopt a boy who is already neutered or a girl who is in need of a home. I know you will never trust another breeder again.

Oh, that makes sense! Lol, thanks. I know :( Here, they're mostly at pet shops :/ I actually had never heard of guinea pigs being in shelters until I decided to research them, and such! That tells you how many guinea pigs are left unwanted here where I live, thankfully not many at all! :D I guess pet shop, it is, huh? I just hope I don't go there looking for a boy, think I'm getting a boy, and end up with a pregnant "boy".
 
Oh my god that is a good point. I hope you can take somebody with you who knows about guinea pigs as many seem to get the gender wrong and that is the last thing you want. You still do not know if your babies are pregnant so you have a long wait.

Yes, i'll have about a 5-6 weeks wait till i know FOR SURE :P I can wait that long for another (: I just love them so much! (NO I WILL NOT BECOME A GUINEA PIG HOARDER! My parents wouldn't allow that anyways :P But I think 3 is enough for me to handle (: I mean, unless the piggies have babies, I'm okay with like 4-6 ;)
 
I have five and it takes a lot more time and money. I go through so much hay it is unreal! I think a bag a week but I do have a bunny too. It takes a lot of time to hold them all each day too so be prepared!
 
I have 13. I think the limit should be set by what an individual feels they can personally cope with. Like for me 13 is relatively easy but I can appreciate some people would struggle with that number, at the same time some members have 20+ piggies and that would be too much for me for sure! You just have to be realistic in what you can care for well and what's a step too far.

I have 3 boars who aren't neutered, one boar who is and 9 sows. They don't all live together obviously but in small groups of 2/3.

I believe 3 would be good for me ;) It seems 2 is just "too easy" Lol, I love them both dearly, I just have so much free time on my hands!
 
I have 12 - 7 sows and 5 boars.

If I was to include my girlfriend's who are like my adopted piggies, I have 18, she has 2 sows and 4 boars.

You can only limit yourself with how many you can afford, have space for and the time for. 12 pigs, my rabbit and the two ratties I got for my girlfriend is just enough for me, although my girlfriend is always taking in strays, she has over 40 pets, mostly rodents and ferrets, but takes care of all of them on her own with no problem. Personally, I couldn't cope with that many alone!

Oh my! Over 40?! Whew! Uh, just a hunch here, and not meaning to sounds ''racist'' when I say this, but ..... in UK and Europe and all, you guys must REALLY like your piggies!(:
 
I have only two piggies mallethead , but like you, I NEED more! And I've only had them for 3 weeks! I think for me about 4 would me the max... I'm going to get 1 or 2 more when I get my giant C&C Cage! EEEEEEEEEE! :(|)

Well technically over 100 if you count the fish in the pond.. but there are too many to count! :)) I want to make a thread to show you all some of her pets actually.

And I don't think that was a racist comment either :p but I don't know how to reply to that, I wouldn't think we love them any more than anyone else.
 
Yes, I absolutely need more! I've only had mine for two weeks :P I really need a C&C Cage, but they're so expensive :/ Bleh. And my parents, "YOU have to pay for a C&C cage"...and I just don't have that kind of money! But don't worry, they pay for everything else hehe, I think theres some cheaper stuff thats the exact same, over here(: Soo i'll probably do that! And that way I don't have to pay for it :P Lol, I want ATLEAST 3 piggies! I'm thinking next i'll get a boy, and a serperate cage(: Probably my two girls will get the "Fake C&C", and the male will get the one theyre in now (: Hehe I sure do love 'them!

In April my plans were to have 6, maybe 8. But you know how it goes... once you start an' all! ;)

They're not as expensive to look after as you'd think as we buy in bulk now. I'd say £30 a month not including veggies. Something like that anyway.

Luckily my parents still pay for them (which does make me feel slightly guilty seeing as how I have more than double what I'd planned, but they're all right with it as at the end of the day, they're still cheaper than some bigger pets!).

Aww! Haha, yeah, I know how it goes ;) I want a third(maybe even fouth), and i've had mine for only about 2 weeks! :P May I ask your age? I'm 13. Yes, I thought they'd be expensive, but not really, i'd say the most expensive for us is the bedding! Lol, my parents pay for the stuff, also. We also have two dogs, and a cat (: Animal frenzy! Lol

I'm 21 :). Which makes me feel even more guilty! I'm still at uni but as soon as I graduate and get a job, I'll be paying for everything. I do buy some stuff (mainly the 'extras' like toys and treat hays and things like that) though, I need to pay for some things! :)

I think it helps that my mum (especially) loves the pigs too; that's why I've been allowed so many. Dad's not really a piggy person, he's more a rabbit man, but he knows they're my favourite and whether he likes it or not as long as I'm at home, there will be pigs around. He just sighs and puts up with it! :p

Oh, aww, don't feel bad, they want to make you happy! (: That's good you do pay for stuff though :P I got a while till I get a job! My mom used to have an albino piggy when she was younger, but she was never IN LOVE with them, as I am ;) Although, she still enjoys them, and cuddles with mine every once in a while, hehe. She's getting attached! Hopefully these guys live a while, being my first, they'll always be the most special(: My dad on the other hand, whenever I ask if he wants to pet them, he says, " Uhh, I have some... work to do... maybe later" Lol (:

Dads, eh?! :P My dad only knows the actual name of TWO of my piggies. He gives nicknames to others that tend to stick (my Tess is a very funky haired grey peru who has been nicknamed Prof and now even I call her that! She does look like a crazy professor...). The rest just get called "Pig". He will stroke them and hold them from time to time though if he's in the mood.

Dad came with me to get 11 of my rescues (I got 10 at once at the end of July and then my latest on Thursday) and he just doesn't get how I can be so excitable! "Yeah, it's a pig". "But dad, it's so cute". "Still a pig" LOL.

As everyone has said, it's what you can afford and look after. I'd have more but my family aren't for it mallethead one day tho....... i hope to get my own way and have a larger house with a couple of more piggies. But i do have to be careful re bonding specially with my blind girl.
 
ghostbusterpiggy-Yeah! Aww, how cute! Lol, my dad won't even touch them! (he's all about hygiene, lol:P ) Aww, I think I'll be getting 1-2 more piggies next month! EEP! :)) x) Whenever my dad calls them "Pigs", I always say.."No, dad, they're not PIGS that snort, they're Piggies, Cavies, Guineas, or Guinea Pigs" "Yeah yeah, go feed the PIGGIES" :P Lol!

Glynis- GLYNIS! (: You're pretty much my fav on here hehe! :)) Awww, you should beg them ;) Hehe, that's what I did! Don't worry, it gets old after a while, and then it's back to being a good girl :P How is your girls? Sending some love to them, escpecially the blind one ♥
