How much are your vets consultation fees?

Just wanting to get a general idea of consultation fees for your guinea? I rang a vet where I live at lunch and I thought their fees were completely ridiculous as there are many in the area for less providing just as good a service.

vet charges

my vet charges $54.95 which is around 27 pounds and revists are $44.00 which is around 22 pounds. if the vet is very good on guinea pigs then maybe the extra money is worth it, just a thought. good luck and hoping scruffy is better soon.:)p:)p:)p
 
Just got an over due reminder for my last visit was for a cockatiel but would be the same for a guineapig. Euro 21.15 I was told last time I was in when I paid off 100 Euro that I only owed 32.00 now I get a bill for 56.06 no idea if that's because it's overdue. Either was planned on heading there on Thurs to pay it off and pick up some stuff for the dogs.

They sure mount up though.

Some of you are lucky, my local vets charge up to €65 and that about £33. If you get meds they charge up to €80 which is nearly £53 ! Luckily I go to the blue cross. Its a mobile vet clinic. http://www.bluecross.ie . They ask for a €10 donation to get in which is about £2.50. If you get meds its usualy €25 which is also nearly £15.I wish your vets swapped with mine ! malletheadmalletheadmallethead
 
My Vets are really good they dont usually charge me anything unless the piggies need medication.
 
thanks everyone for your replies. The vet i rang was going to charge 40 pounds for a consultation alone! I think that is very steep

I have been quoted 23 pounds with caviesgalore recommendation which i dont think is too bad really.
 
Generally speaking for any follow up visits my vet also only charges a nominal fee, you just pay for any meds/imaging costs etc.
 
At my old vets the 1st consult = £16.95 Follow-up £8.95

I've only been to my new vets twice, both times were pts visits :( & i was only charged for this
 
I can't remember what the vet closest to me charges for just the consultation, but the last time I went (Monday!) I was charged £27 for the consultation, a baytril injection and 5 day course of baytril. This vet however is not very cavy savvy but is very willing to learn, listen to suggestions and read the Guinea Lynx info I print to take with me.

My very Cavy Savvy vet charges around £23 for the consult, but she is great with pigs, is very knowledgeable and has loads of experience.
 
Mines £12.50 but the follow ups are free if they don't do anything but check the guinea pig :)
 
my vet in south london cost £35 to have a nail removed (he just pulled it out, after it came lose in an accident). And £25 to look at an eye. the pets @ home vet costs £8 to cut nails. hope that helps, they are very expensive for what they do, but we do need them @)
 
£40 seems ok for a neuter to me :)

Oh just read it again, thats ridiculous for a consultion!

I only pay for meds, no consult fee.
 
Mine charge £10 for first consultation, then follow ups at £5.

Neutering is £34 with free follow up consultation.
 
everyone is so lucky in their areas! around here is really pricey and they charge you same amount for follow up consultation - well the vets i was going to. Caviesgalore gave me her vets which is down the road so will be going to there from now on, but still more than what most of you pay!
 
That's a shame, normally you're only in there for 10/15minutes and to charge £40.00 is really bad. That's a hourly rate of £240.00!!! grrrr
 
i know its appauling! i love my piggys to bits and would always take to vets, but for those kind of prices, its ridiculous.

Caviesgalore recommendation is about £23 i think, and they do longer hours which suit me as i work, so will transfer Scruffy's files over to them.
 
Reading through some of these posts i've realised how lucky we are here! We pay around £12.50 per consultation which does'nt seem to bad after reading it costs some people £40 a consultation. Thats appalling. i Suppose it depends how many there are in the area, if there's lots around they have to be competitive if there's not many i guess they cant charge whatever they want. Its really bad is'nt it.

certainly is! i think its disgusting that they take advantage of that factor when its an animals life which is the most important thing when it comes down to this. Its daylight robbery in my opinion! Thts why i find it so hard to keep going back to vets sometimes as the costs are just building so much!

Exactly. Taking into consideration the credit crunch too people are just not going to be able to afford it so more animals will end up uncared for or in shelters. :...

certainly true, alot of people may abandon those pets which they just cant afford to treat. its so sad i hope this wont be the case.
