Hi, I was hoping to get some suggests/advice on how to give our guinea pigs a bit more room. We bought 2 girls (6 weeks old) about a month ago, and got a 110cm by 50cm cage for them. We also got a 50cm by 90cm run. Ideally, I'd like to connect the cage to the run so the girls can use it while we're away at work in the day, but, the run has high sides so fitting a shallow enough ramp is tricky, it would have to have switchbacks. I'd also worry it might pull the cage off the table it's on, with the weight inbalance when a guineapig used it. Otherwise, maybe we could add another level to our shop bought cage with some c&c grids, though we'd have to cut a hole in the top to do this. I've attached a picture of the cage and run. The cage is currently on a 50cm high table as the guineas seem to be less nervous if they're closer to our level.

The run having high sides, I’m not sure would be a problem because the sides look lower than the table.
Could you bend/form some c&c grids into a ramp shape (because any ramp would have to have sides for safety) and cable tie them together (would need some kind of reinforcement panel up the back as grids would just concertina up), cover them with something (piggies obviously can’t walk up them) and then cable tie them to the cage. I hope that makes sense!
Ultimately the easiest thing would be to put the cage on the floor and then open up one side of the run, add a little ramp (fiddlesticks log tunnels are great for this) over the cage bottom into the run and that that should be it! If you aren’t there in the day then my feeling is that they wouldn’t mind being on the floor if there isn’t any movement in the room, but eventually they get used to living in a busy house and they won’t be so nervous after you’ve had them longer.

Thanks for the suggestion 🙂. We've order some c&c grids as they'll be useful to add a bit of an extension even if the ramp doesn't work out. Putting them on the floor in the day might be the best option though 🙂.

I second putting the cage on the floor and opening one side so they have access to the run. You could use one of those wooden bridges as a ramp from cage to run.
