Hello! First time poster here. I adopted my two gorgeous boars a week ago and they are settling in well! I have a 5×2 Kavee C&C cage for them which they adore. I use Aubiose bedding which me and the Guineas really like.

However, when they do their zoomies and popcorning (which I love, and obvs are so pleased they do) they scatter their bedding all over the floor! I dont think making the corroplast higher would make any difference as they kick it so high!

I'd like it to be see-through so we can see them!

Switching to fleece isn't an option for me because I can't cope with the laundry!

Yes, piggies are messy. I don't have much advice for you. Unfortunately, hay and bedding everywhere kinda comes along with owning piggies. I keep a dustpan and brush near each of our cages. Feels like I'm constantly sweeping up. I think it's worth it though. Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum! I find the base in the Kavee cage much shallower than what I did when we had a C&C cage with 15cm at the front and 20cm at the back, if you don’t want to switch to fleece then increasing the height of the sides is probably your best bet!

Hello and welcome to the forum. I agree. Wood shavings, hair, hay and poops all find their way into places they shouldn’t. lol.

Not sure how high the cage base you mention is, but 12-15cm is pretty standard correx height. I also tried aubiose type bedding however and found it went absolutely everywhere, also it rustled as the piggies ran around and spooked them so they ran faster! I like the soft recycled paper beddings personally, Kaytee clean'n'cosy or recently we tried Small Pet Select recycled paper bedding and were very impressed with that- I think Carefresh is another soft paper bedding.
Soft and quiet to walk on/sleep on, very absorbent, and less likely to fly all over the floor. But, some bedding and hay and poops will always go on the floor, and find their way into all sorts of places- piggies like that sort of thing, the surprise poop that appears in a shoe or pocket and hay in rooms the piggies never go into :)

Thank you so much for the advice - you're right, the Aubiose does startle them 😂

Kavey correx is only about 5cm tall - how annoying!

Welcome!
I have correx much higher than the kavee correx, as I didn't like all the poopies flying out. You could buy correx sheets and add strips stuck on with duct tape, but it might not be the look you want.

just call me Cinderella :lol!: i am always sweeping bits up with my little brush! Luckily we have wooden floors so its not too bad!

You could try some clear perspex/acrylic sheets a bit higher up?

I found hay blew everywhere as the pigs are by the back door and we have hard floors - so I put a little mat down next to the piggie area and much of the hay stuck to that and mostly didn't end up all over the kitchen - I mean bits of it do, but before it looked like a barn!

You could try just a bit of fleece at one end of your cage with a cheap puppy pad underneath to see how it goes? I'm a total convert and have made a set of fleece/zorb/fleece 'sandwiches' - which get covered in hay of course, but then there should be less on the floor?
rough edge brown fleece.webp

I was thinking of exactly that - any idea how I would attach perspex into the set up...?

My floor is carpet 😱

I have a c & c cage and it has correx but just standard size.. I have slotted cardboard between the correx to stop some spillage so assume you could slide the perspex in the same way?

Carpet - I can see how this would be a complete pain 😱😱😱

Someone advised getting a rubber dustpan and broom for the carpet, I did and it’s very useful! About £15 off Amazon as I recall (Spontex one)

Ahhhh the horrific years I spent hoovering shavings and hay off the carpet make me shudder. I just moved to a house with a vinyl floor I can sweep and I am now in heaven! It really has changed my life! Not that the pigs make any less mess now, it's just a hundred times easier to clean up. I still get the huge zoomie and shavings kick five minutes after I've cleaned them out. 🙄

:wel: to our friendly Forum! You ask away we were all new to piggy owning once. We also love piggy spam on here so any pigtures of your boys would be appreciated. What are their names?

Their names are Merry and Pippin (Hobbits!). They are 5ish months old, not entirely sure because they were abandoned :(

Is Pippin the black piggie? I have a black piggie. Her name is Meg. She has a gold go faster stripe near her bum on her right side and little white toes on her front right foot.
