show them the teenage version of piggies... Well was a thought but doesn't work for humans!

I really do wonder where all these homes are going to come from for the sudden influx of minis that are going to be born.
Rescues really do struggle to get homes for the ones that they already have and its not just adults they struggle to find homes for,its babies that have been born in the rescue aswell so when all of these babys are born its going to be mayhem

It is, we're going to be overrun with piggies in the world soon!
I only really have room for another 2-3 piggies but if she does have more than that, I think I'll make room...I know I wont be able to give them up!

i understand what you mean. if you're gonna put your piggies through it you should really do your homework beforehand! my dear little peony was already pregnant when i got her (not that i knew that) but even still when i found out i read loads of books and stuff.
but i also asked for advice here

when i did rescue i got so many people asking for 'one of each ' so they cud have babies :tickedoff: or because i breed 'did i have one i didnt want' er no no no and no, the problem with breeding pets is no one wants these sweet but sometimes 'ugly' babies, there are hundreds of 'dolly mixtures' bought on a whim, dumped at the bottom of the garden, for every one eles to look after & sort these piggies out. i spend time & money on my pure breeds , i know there historys etc , check there health & 9/10 those i dont keep are snapped up by people eager to have a purebreed & willing to spend money /time research etc.
you dont just chuck two pigs in together and let it happen naturally, ive had peoples unwanted pigs who have had an accident & spends hundreds on getting mum thru the births , hand rearing sick babies & losing mum , coz she was to younge/old unhealthy etc, if you want to give youre kids a hobby and it has to be an animal get them showing in pet classes at the local shows , they will learn about pet grooming etc at least that way & realise what hard work it is :(
oh & the biggest insult as a breeder i must breed everything that comes thru my doors to make cash :tickedoff:
you pay out 100 times more than you ever have coming in , but the love you recive back from youre pigs more than make up for it :smitten:

Well I'm a breeder who intentionally breeds. BUT I only have litters when I know I can find homes for them and if they don't they stay here for as long as it is necessary.

Making money with breeding piggies? Wow tell me then how they do that hahaha. They cost me more then that I get for the babies hahaha. But then, for people who just wants them as pets I change the price a little

I dont think it is a good idea for unexperienced guineapig owners to breed their guineapigs withought reading up about it first.

I kept guineapigs for 9 years before i decided to breed, and i felt very confident i knew what i was doing. we had aload of people who wanted the babies but she only had 2 (1 was stillborn :'() but the other one was soooooo gorgeous we had to keep her.

I think its cruel to breed animals when people dont think about what they are going to do with the offspring etc.

yes I agree with that ,all my babies born here in over 30 years have all been kept by me from the cradle to the grave they stay with me

just imagine if there was a pill for pigs Lord knows how we would get it down them for a start ::)

Just wrap it up in a spinach leaf, would soon go down ;D ;D

I don't see how anyone can think they can make money from breeding pigs, unless they have a 'pig farm' where they breed loads. I recently bought a little boar as a companion for my older pig and he was £10 - I'm pretty sure in 5 weeks he'd have eaten far and beyond £10 worth of food
